I need to replace the clutch, slipping at high speed roll on.

So new clutch, will have oil seals done as well since it's stripped down

£500.00 quoted, how does this fair??.

I will also get them to do the service, 6 year, had big 25K done last yeart
new tyres, Bridgestone, anything better now??
and finally a MOT.

Comments would be welcolme.

Thanks

Gary.

Gave up trying to attach picture, it was less than 155,000, but it said it was too Big.

hi.....i was also gob smacked at what the clutch costs.....had an earlier thread started by me on the same subject and a guy recommended i tried Jap and German based the other side of tower bridge in london. i know its no good for you if you're no where near but they quoted me £340 quid using an official part.

as for the bmw cost......well, it truely sucks, like all their costs!

Clutch

Gary,
I just had a look at the manual, changing the clutch looks like a big job so I imagine the part runs to £150 (guess) so maybe £350 to fit it is the correct price. My question would be why did it fail after 25k miles, I would have thought it should do 50k easy?
good luch

Clutch Replacement

Gary

DIY.

Both The Celt and I did our own last year prior to our S. American jaunt. It's very easy to do, but time consuming. Hiring an hydraulic engine crane (mine was ten quid for a day) makes it much easier, as you can take the gearbox, shaft and final drive off as a unit and avoid bending the actuating rod.

I bought a low mileage three part s/h unit from James Sherlock for fifty quid.

Only have the oil seals replaced if it's necessary. I thought one (or more) of mine had gone before I did the job as there was a suspicious stain under the "bell housing". However it turned out to be grease that had crept there from the stand pivots (I don't wash it as I've discovered that it just gets dirty again).

Good Luck.
