I have a Street Pilot 3 which I operated in conjunction with my old Dell computer without any problems. However I just purchased a new Dell computer and discovered a problem. The cable that runs from the GPS unit to the computer has what I believe is called a serial port connection, the problem is I only have USB port connections on the back of the computer. As a result I am unable to transfer route information from my PC to my GPS. Has anyone else had this problem ????. Is there a simple solution ????.

Any help most welcome.

Niall

If you have no serial (RS-232 port) you can purchase a USB to serial connector

here is an example of one (from amazon.co.uk)

but shop around you will find one cheaper

Hmmm.....approaching the problem from the wrong direction I reckon....

Rather than use an adaptor to take serial to USB (which is expensive....30 quid upwards) you can easily add a serial i/o pci card for less than a tenner for a single rs232 port, or about 14 quid for a dual port or above card.

Maplins, PC world, DAB direct, practically everyone does them.

I did think...

of that but as I use a Desknote, it wouldn't fit....I also assumed thats what NJC had.....but its only £15
