I've now reached the stage where the R100GS-PD engine is being stripped, checked then re-built. The existing diode board is reportedly as being in a poor condition so what are the options please? Go the Thunderchild route (which do look well made) or just fit a standard BMW diode board? What about the ignition module and voltage regulator? Thunderchild sell these but will the existing ones do?

I've looked at the Thunderchild website but have to admit that anything electrical just goes straight over my head.:nenau

I have fitted 4 Thunderchilds over the years - on different bikes
also got the higher output at lower revs regulator
All are still working well and never had a flat battery since ( I used to have to switch everything off if I were not doing over 2.5 k revs) or they wouldnt keep starting after "Gates and Offs etc. "
I use me lights and sometimes heated grips whilst tootling down the trails
now :D
I think the last set I got were under 70 quid posted from San Diego
in 4 days as well I recall :clap

Used Thunderchild before and they are top quality but with the hassle of avoiding import duty and VAT I went with the Motorworks upgraded option, lovely bit of kit and under £60.

Thank a lot Peeps, I think I shall go the Motorworks uprated route. Getting stung with custom taxes is rather irritating and has happened in the past to me.

Pete, where do the two yellow and the brown wire go to ?

On most bikes they go to a compact, encapsulated combined diode pack, voltage and charge control unit, usually made by Shindengen or somebody.

And they are much less tolerant to "abuse" than the BMW OEM bits.

they go to the silver "finned" aluminium block in the centre of this picture

Is that an HPN modded frame?

Just looking at the picture of your BMW. The tank mods look like HPN on the frame front. Just trying to find who owns HPNs in the UK.:ChrisKelly

No Mr Nixon aka Dogbytes of this parish did my frame for me. We studied all the photos of hpn work before deciding what to do
