Guys,

Having a new engine ect fitted under warrant!

Being advised that BMW do not provide any PAPERWORK? Can any one advise me on this? Clearly the dealer records it on the system however when it comes to selling it what do you do to prove it? Ask the buyer to check with BMW ! WTF

so what has everyone else done? Or been provided as proof of mileage on the engine not the clocks!

Ps this is my first thread so please go easy!:thumb2

I bought my GS from a BMW dealer....they had changed the engine previously under warranty - in the book are two post it notes to show it!!
No other paperwork!

I presume you have a different engine serial number so you'll have to tell DVLA and change the V5.

BMW warranty system will show the date and mileage of the work, can the Dealer give you a copy/screenshot?

HTH

Great .......Post It notes :blast

Caveat Emptor then

Also the new engines don't always come with a engine number I think

Ask the dealer to enter "replacement engine fitted" in the service book and stamp it with their official stamp, is that so difficult ?

I Like that idea, surely they can provide a copy of the invoice for parts and labour ! I should be so lucky! Lol

You are unlikely to get a copy of the warranty invoice as BMW would likely deem that as sensitive information

If you made a contribution to the repair you would get paperwork for the bit you paid for

Just ask the dealer to stamp your service book with a record of the change :thumby:

I was given a copy of the warranty invoice as proof that the engine was not 'dodgy'

If you don't ask you don't get.

So how much did the dealer charge BMW for the repair?

I don't want to say publicly as i might drop someone in it if they were not supposed to give it to me but it was getting on for half the value of a new bike.

It's not a true value though because it's a BMW produced part so they will have profits all down the supply route (BMW production, BMW DE & BMW UK) so the price shown for the engine includes a high margin for BMW plus around 10% on the parts for the dealer (at a guess)

As a whole I wonder how many engines have been replaced ! Surely that's some loss or do they blame the Chinese manufacturers.

Unless the rules have changed in the last couple of years the DVLA were requiring written proof regarding the provenence of a replacement engine (ie a receipt or bill of sale) and either an engineers report or written letter from mechanic/dealer who fitted the replacement motor before they would issue a v5c with the new engine details on

My engine swap was done in June this year. New engine number provided by dealer, to me. I then sent V5 off to DivvyLA and got new V5. Simples.
