Since getting my 1200GS I have been trying to work out how best to mount my smartphone satnav onto the bike. Until now I have tucked it into the clear top of my tank bag but that's a bit of a pain plus its not that easy to see.

When in my local bike shop this weekend I saw a brand new product from Givi. They call it the S950 and put simply it is a flexible case into which you can fit either a smartphone or a car satnav. It comes with a mount to bolt it onto a tube for bike mounting and the case already has a cut-through to allow you to run cables to devices inside the case. (In the bottom picture you can see the cable coming through in the middle of the case.)

You can mount it vertically (as in the pictures below) or horizontally depending on your device. The case snaps on and off and while the clip seems robust enough there is also a velcro security strap to stop you losing the case in the event that something did happen.

I have attached mine to the bracket on which the screen is mounted. As you can see the case now sits behind the windscreen and just above the dash. As standard the mount is designed for a larger diameter tube but the kit comes with some spacers to reduce the size which resulted in a reasonable fit. By comparison the handlebar tube was way too large for the mount.

The kit comes with a waterproof rain cover, although my guess is that the case itself is water 'resistant'. Having mounted mine behind the screen I'm hoping the rain cover will not be needed.

Opening the case you find a foam insert and you sandwich you phone / satnav between that and the clear plastic 'window' in the case. Two velcro straps then hold the device in place.

The whole case snaps off leaving just the bracket (see below) so it is fairly easy to grab the device if you need to leave the bike. The only tricky bit will be if you have cables fitted; I have a charger but I have run a cable with a power socket up to the front of the bike and tied it off behind the oil cooler so I can plug in the charger there. This means that if I need to pull the case off I can just quickly unplug the charger.

Obviously I haven't had much chance to use it yet but at £45 it is a pretty cheap option compared to most of the other options I have seen to far so I thought I would share the details with you all.

Nice, just spotted this on Amazon. Same price as the S850, but how do they compare?
