NEW GOLDWING GOING BACK :-(

My son nearly bought a bike from them when he lived in Peterborough but changed his mind at the last moment as the salesman was a “cockwomble “ apparently, what ever one of those is.

He went in to sign up for the bike in uniform (police) and all he got from the salesman was piss taking and his views that the police are wankers.

That’s a shocking example of customer service and how to lose a sale

I was reminded why I don’t buy a new bike often

All was well with the son when doing the deal on phone & email - it was a new bike, so no big surprise what I wanted

Fast forward to collection day and I went down in my van - just after lockdown in late July

Bike was in workshop and gleaming - all good

Signed the HP paperwork and paid the 50% deposit by card to get to the 0% level that was co funded by Yamaha and dealer

Fail 1 - no copies of HP paperwork were given, a breach of FCA rules and one they could have been reported for
Fail 2 - as the bike was going in the Van I wanted to remove the footrest rubbers to attach additional straps - the father and dealer principal loudly berated me, for suggesting it and I would invalidate the Yamaha warranty (eh) and I was an idiot
Fail 3 - the DD mandate was wrong and Santander wrote to me asking me to pay month 1 manually
Fail 4 - I paid the first reg fee and for 12 months VED and when the paperwork came back from DVLA it was only taxed for 6 months Rang them up and asked what was going on, the father answered and said they must have made a mistake (yeah right) and they would refund me - which they did but a lower incorrect amount

So, no wonder main dealers get bad press and sour the retail experience of buying a new bike

Yeah, JB, all very well, but you dont buy a new bike more than once a decade simply because you’re a fucking tight arse....end of :-)

Nothing wrong with being a tight arse Yorkshire man, its a badge of honour. You know what they say about us yorkshire folk.

A yorky is like a Scotsman with the generosity squeezed out. :beerjug:

JB is 'new Yorkshire', an immigrant that's trying to embrace the cultures of Yorkshire, hence being a tight arse. :aidan

Nothing to do with that, I could buy one as many times as I like, but I am not as vain as you are

So do fuck off, with your assertions:thumby:

Not really, all the family are from Yorkshire.............born and bred, so it's second nature:okay

Just checked mine today, all is well.

Steve.... regardless, get some 9/10H ceramic coating on those cylinder heads ASAP. Especially where my one failed. It won't hurt. Any other liquid protection will probably not work IMO.

I'm a bit sceptical when it comes to this ceramic coating malarky. Anyway, if the paint has just lifted off yours it wouldn't have made any difference would it ?. I still think you've just been unlucky, VERY unlucky. Lets see what the dealer says, they may be the biggest problem with the reputation they seem to have, but you'll get a good outcome mate.

What's their explanation for the excessive noise when accelerating and at 70mph?

No idea. They were looking at first service but the noise issue became rather secondary when the paint started failing.

Been an interesting day. Some dancing around hand bags. Comms from Simon the Wheels GM. It's like he's read the first section in a salesman's training manual.....'don't focus on the customer, don't answer any difficult questions, just focus on where you want to get to - after all, the customer is probably so stupid he won't even notice' :thumb2

So bad. I'll see if he responds by tomorrow evening but if not I'll let you have a read of the exchange.

Face saving at all cost

Well, here is the news:

Wheels have had the bike through their workshop and I've received an email confirming a full refund less £604 for the 500 odd miles I've done.

I've accepted this to move on from it. I think Wheels have acted in a legally correct and sensible way to conclude this. It was an inevitable conclusion really, just a shame they've lost a customer because of the way it was processed.

Hmm ............... sounds a bit much for 500 miles (implication bike is worth zero after 20,000 miles approx) ... anyways , sometimes better to just accept and move on ...... it's what I've done after a dealer tried to sell me a rattly Goldwing .............. promised refund of travelling expenses , then turned round and said no .....................
