NEW GOLDWING GOING BACK :-(

Well, here is the news:

Wheels have had the bike through their workshop and I've received an email confirming a full refund less £604 for the 500 odd miles I've done.

I've accepted this to move on from it. I think Wheels have acted in a legally correct and sensible way to conclude this. It was an inevitable conclusion really, just a shame they've lost a customer because of the way it was processed.

Congrats on getting a result. Shame about the deduction. It’s odd you deduct the delivery milage, the test ride milage and the to and fro milage trying to get fixes and they haven’t priced goodwill and lost custom very well.

So, you're paying for the refurb of a sub standard bike.

Personally i'd take that as a success story - in 8 days you have rejected a £30k bike and been refunded 99% of your money - i'd be saying what a great dealer experience that was - not a shite one..

You also need to look at the fact that the dealer has a £30k liability to manage ( His margin on this is probably just a couple of k) and before he commits to you he will need to get it underwritten by Honda/His Dad/His Wife/His bank etc this is not a quick process and due diligence needs to be followed.

I'd say you have been treated well

What are you going to replace it with?

As always, we're all entitled to our own opinion on things. Feel free to buy from there, I won't try to stop you....sure you won't have the trouble I've had as I doubt there's another Goldwing with the same issue. Bit unfortunate, especially as I really liked the bike & I'm missing it if I'm honest.

I was in KTM today and I mentioned the unusual issue. I asked him what he does when things like this happen. "We try to get ahead of any issues that come up and either get a replacement bike straight away or cash back". PERFECT. Sadly that didn't happen and I just got a grumpy dealer who made me feel like it was my fault. You can see that how you choose to, honestly I really don't care, but in my head thats just not good enough.

They have settled though, although not just yet. So at least all parties can put it behind. I could push for the £604, but I've learnt from life that sometimes it's best to take a bit of a hit and move on.

Well, I had a plan. The plan included the Goldwing. Without it I may just keep what I've got. Maybe see what the new Multi is like on a test ride or the 1290 when it's out. Still very happy with the 3 year old 1290 adv and I can see the new one being very good indeed with its low fuel tank arrangement. Brilliant on the 790.

What would you expect a dealer to say, that might have the potential to sell a bike - No mate, would have told you to jog off :)

Maybe it’s time to have another chat with Andy in Hull

One of the things I didn’t like about my 1290 was that the weight was quite high up. No such issues on my 790. With the tanks down low on the new 1290, it could be a cracking bit of kit. Regardless of how it looks! :P

That's true, the weight is up there. But I've never really had an issue with it. At least I thought not. Then I got the 790R and straight away thought 'if only they'd done this to the 1290'. So they are doing and I've got a sneaky feeling it'll transform it. Into something better. I test rode the 1290 Superduke earlier in the year and the engine is so much more refined now - so if they put that engine, or a version of it, in the 1290 adventure it'll be hard to beat. Just the Multistrada with it's V4 - nice to test ride both one day future.

The new 2021 Superduke GT will be an interesting bike. Following the reveal of the V4 Multi, a few folk on the Ducati forum are leaning away from Ducati and to KTM. Subject to seeing both bikes in the flesh and test riding them, of course!

Glad you got a refund, bit like yourself £604 deduction would stick in my gullett, but as you say now just move on.
I once was offered a refund on a car less a deduction which I rejected as I wanted 100% return. The dealer said no and decided to let legal process take place, it did, he lost but a lesson in stress management for me.

Fortunate you did not part exchange a bike which they then sold before the refund, that could have been awkward.

Good luck finding a replacement steed.
