Hi all….I’ve migrated across from the hex head group having made the decision to jump into a new GSA triple
Black which should land next week.

Been a long time deciding…taken lots out for test rides over the last 2 years thinking I fancied a change from my 2011 he head that I have had for over 9 years and almost 20k miles.
1250 RS- lovely but just wasn’t as comfy
1250RT- again, lovely bike, plenty of kit, comfy and quiet with the huge screen. Just felt like I was sitting on top of it (hard to explain) and a bit old man.
1250GS- Very nice, seemed much lighter to manoeuvre and felt smaller and less imposing than my 1200.
1200 Tiger GT and Rally explorers- lots of kit, everything you’d want, sweet engine and quick. Struggled to get used to it diving under braking…but was a close consideration.

Eventually took out the GSA having always written it off as too big and heavy. Was surprised that it dispelled my concerns and had the commanding presence I liked. When compared to a standard GS TE the GSA TE seems better value.
Got a good deal (no surprise given the imminent arrival of the 1300) and I’m happy as I’m well aware that new models always seem to have a few years of issues before they get it right. Annoying my luggage is useless and find the vario does the job for my needs but suppose the GSA is just set up for the hard adv stuff so getting the top box for now and will consider options for panniers when we do our next big trip next year.

Anyway, seen the issues and recall finding out about the same issues when I got the 1200, but pleased to report my 1200was a beauty…never missed a beat. Yes it’s corroded at the front…my fault for some poor maintenance following a couple of years winter use…. And expect it to happen again. But they all do this so BMW no worse and hoping I’m lucky to avoid any problems again.

Question please though- Any after delivery extras that are essential?

Thanks for reading, glad to have a shiny bike to try and do a better job on the maintenance this time around.

Good for you old fruit. You won't be disappointed. I bought mine new in 2018 and still loving it.
Extras ? Depends obviously on what you want to do with it ... massive camping trips or just a couple of weeks away in hotels etc .. wait and see what you need as you go along. I bought a top box initially which I found was essential .. others might just like a tank bag .. you get the idea I,m sure ! Whatever you decide to do I am sure you will be grinning a lot.

Would suggest a side stand foot enlarger,
Bungs for the holes in the frame, possibly handguard extenders(particularly if winter riding..Front mudguard extender and rear mudslinger or similar

Yes, we just did lake Como and back but used Hotels….missus (has her own tiger 900 rally pro) won’t do the setting up of tents so we booked hotels etc. likely be the way in future too.

Sidestand extender I have on my current Gs, came with it and is a camel toe. Doubt it will come off easily so gonna send it off with the bike and get a new one as they probably are essential. I guess there is a topic on here somewhere for such a query

Even if your new steed is not going through a winter, still ACF50.

I have bar raisers, up only not back, lower pegs as 6ft 6in here. But biggest tip? have your seat on high at the front low at the back……GSA here 19 plate, 48,342 miles enough said lol

Yes, I started off the ACF50 route on the current bike, but was already corroded at the front and then later didn’t get back on top of it after having it stored at a mates house for over a year. Most of it was already past it by then so just left it.
Planned to have it all taken off and powder coated with my local ish independent specialist this winter but with the deal I’ve got I’m happy to not have the hassle and expense and just start again from scratch and make a better effort to do the ACF50 every couple of months.

I’m hoping that should be enough, not much fun messing about with a hose after getting home in the dark on a cold winter morning/evening, never mind also finding a day to clean it and do the whole bike with ACF50 after every winter trip.

I’m deffo a fair weather biker but prefer to avoid a second car for the rare occasions we could use one.

radiator guards, bmw do plastic ones that are reasonably priced, i learned the hard way im afraid, £400 plus when a stone punctured 1 rad.

MachineArt mudsling for the rear and a fender extender for the front plus a crud catcher for the front of the engine. The best rust inhibitors according to MCN are.......

Get clean machine to put protection on the shiny new bike

Bang on Mr Twat .. of course the mudsling and front end extender with big foot .. why oh why did I forget the basics ?? lol

My current dilemma revolves around the connecting of phones, the cradle and all that fancy tec.
Only just sussed out the setting up of the headset I got recently with a new helmet…and now trying to decide what’s best with regard getting the navigator…a cradle for iPhone, a totally different Nav or re-using the quad lock is sending me around in circles.
Read plenty of opinions and topics here about it and there’s no real clear answer.

I’m pretty sure I don’t want to buy the Navigator 6, I’m concerned the cradle will bugger the iPhone 14pro ..But want to make the most of what I have. Really annoyed I didn’t just keep the iPhone 12 that Apple gave me £120 for!!!

Oh well…I will keep researching

Were you guy collecting from Connor at York on Saturday morning?

My Quadlock setup (with anti vibe head) hasn't affected my iPhone 14 pro max. It won't fit right in the Connected cradle, but I think that has a built in vibe dampener anyway. I had an iPhone 11 pro max connected to that for a while and I still use that phone for work, so no problems with the camera etc.

I use a Nav 6 because I prefer how It works with the wheel etc.

Setting it up is a proper ball ache but with the latest firmware don't have any issues at all. As long as you remember to set the phone to the TFT and the head set to the TFT. If you set the headset phone it doesn't like it. Then, if you decide on the Nav 6, set the phone and headset to that but turn off telephone in the options.

You're very welcome to try my cradle if you like.

No, I go to Paul at The Workshop, my current is due a big service in November so won’t be going to him for a while, I try to keep cars with dealers while in Warranty, same with my car.

And thanks for the heads up about the cradle, it’s reassuring that I read more folk having not had any issues with their IPhone in the cradle, and seeing as that makes use of the bike controls system is probably the route I will take.
Having had both though is there more features to the Nav over the phone in the cradle?

I don’t bother with music if I’m honest, just happy to get navigation commands and deffo need to be able to chat with missus for the rides out.
She connects her phone to her triumph so I’m hoping there wont be any issues with it all as we have it spot on at the moment connecting with the Sena App.
