New GSA+Recovery truck = very unhappy chap

Give the guy a break, some folk just aren't mechanically minded. I'd be annoyed as well in his place. Fortunately I would have been able to either fix it or jury rig it and enjoy the ride home

I broke a finger nail once fcuk me it was a drama too, had to have my whole hand taken off up to the elbow :toungincheek:rolleyes:

Be careful what you wish for....

Some of the news websites allow readers to comment on the story and then others to vote hot or cold, up or down on the comments, eg. Daily Mail.
With this facility you will get more interaction with the readers on here, and those that post absolute rubbish, as many do, will get some feedback and may alter their ways.
Please can we have it?

Well, howdoo, you're certainly getting some interactive feedback, Daily Mail style or otherwise. Whether you'll alter your ways is up to you....

Well I think that's made my mind up..

I'm getting rid of the WC and buying a Stevio...:D

I keep telling myself, that even though I'm a WC owner I should never look in the WC section, but somehow it keeps drawing you back, just in case there's a gem like this one.

I was talking to Ian at Rainbow when my bike had gone in for a service last week.He was telling me about a bloke he'd spent most of the day with a couple of weeks ago.

Arrived at the showroom and announced he was there to buy a bike that day, took every demo bike they had out,but came to the final conclusion that he was unable to make a purchase as none of the bikes he had tried fully kept the wind off him. :blast :blast :blast.

Steve

:blast :blast Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse in here.

You're not alone:blast

Recovery, for a lost pannier lock:D

He's not alone, been away for the weekend on the bike too

This morning I was waltzing around the hotel bedroom in bare feet, packing

I caught my big toe on the low slung divan and broke the toe nail right off

Ouch, how I winced:tears

Worse than that I had the prospect of riding 135 miles home today with a broken toenail:eek:

With no toe nail clippers or scissors (mental note for next time), I took out a cable tie, from my rack bag and carefully wrapped it around the broken toe and nail, then sliced off the excess plastic with my leatherman, before carefully slipping my sock over my poorly toe and putting on my bike boots

Undeterred, we rode the long way home, over the twisty roads of the North Pennines and Dales, forsaking the express route of the A1

I am glad, that I didn't call CN Recovery to take my bike home, because all was ok in the end with a bit of IMPROVISATION :clap

One chap, this weekend with a new 1200 WC GSA, dropped his twice yesterday and managed without recovery both times, his bike was only 4 days old

To the OP, man up .....................please:thumby:

The OP may be getting some stick, but he just parted with probably the thick end of 15k for something that is shit, not up to the job or badly assembled. No excuses it should not have happened.
It would seem that yes a fix to get you back on the road would have been easy, but he wasn't in outer mongolia so why the feck should you bodge it with a strap.Thats what you pay bmw assist/recovery for.

................................................................................................................................................................................................................ no! leave it chad oh fuck it !! we are doomed:eek::eek::eek::eek:

what ever happened to Adapt Adopt Overcome !!!!:drool:drool:drool:drool

He's from Yorkshire (so he'll no doubt have a thick skin and not give a shite about the abuse he's getting on here) and has saved the cost of fuel for his return trip. Wouldn't he usually be in line for some kind of award ? :nenau :D

Bart Simpson "This is the worst day of my life"
Homer - "Correction, this is the worst day of your life so far".

Cant beat putting a negative spin on life!:D

.... Does anyone know where the locks are coded and fitted, ie. Should I be extremely annoyed with BMW or Jeffries? Or both?
In most cases with the new panniers/locks, they are coded to your VIN in Germany but fitted to the panniers by your dealer.

One wafer of the lock is used to hold the lock on place once fitted. If the lock isn't fully inserted when assembled, it will fall out as you have discovered.

All 6 locks are identical so you could have used one of the lid locks to replace the one that had fallen out (assuming you had lost it) :thumb2

Lucky it didn't happen in the middle of nowhere you could have died. You should get rid of such a dangerous heap of unreliable shit and buy a nice safe scooter. JJH

.

Because,as you said yourself...
"It would seem that yes a fix to get you back on the road would have been easy".
Easy, very easy and quick....via the use of one or more straps, some gaffa tape or whatever.

A subscriber to a Sadventure Non Biker type magazine or website could even have used the gut of some roadkill to create some super string...or used their tactical survival knife to strip bark from a tree and make some binding. :D :augie

Thats what you pay bmw assist/recovery for.

No it isn't.
Not at all.
