New GSA+Recovery truck = very unhappy chap

I just wonder what the part in German says?

The German version and the English say the same. They have to cover themselves from claims raised by people too stupid to be let out on their own. But nowhere does it say " wait to the roadside for recovery so that you can be considerably more inconvenienced than you would have been by improvising"

An object lesson in to how to turn a minor problem into a big one.

Got to my Hotel on Tuesday night and noticed right hand spark cover was loose and screw almost fallen out (lucky it hit the engine bars so didn't come all the way out).
Should I have rung roadside recovery or was I right to go to Screwfix next door and spend £4.90 on set of torx keys?


Out of interest why does the 'tool kit' not have a torx key when all the fittings seem to be torx?
It's got a cross head screwdriver but not sure I've seen anything for it to fit!

Off comes side-cover, re attach battery cable, get outta Mansfield!

Wtf has happened to some peoples common sense and ability..?

Hmm...a mere legal disclaimer. Back in the real world........for most folks a ride in a recovery truck would be an absolute last resort.

Surprised the bike itself doesnt come with a "bikes r dangerous" legal disclaimer sticker over the ignition barrel these days.

It does! there is a T25 Torx on the other end of the Philips screwdriver - its double ended! :blast

Believe it or not I tried that as thought it might and it seemed solid so thought perhaps not.
However.... Just been in Garage and checked again, came straight apart, voila T25.
Why the f*ck didn't it do that on Tuesday. :banghead:
I must have been over-tired.
Thinking about it, I'd taken it apart a while ago to undo the oil filler cap but never noticed the T25.

Any one want to buy set of Torx keys, used once £4.89 + carriage :rolleyes:


Oh and how many people have now gone and looked at theirs.

Update

AJ's told me that new locks sometimes fall out and that there was swarf in the lock.

They cleaned and lubricated all the locks (6) and on Saturday I picked the panniers up.

Later on I tried the offending lock and the barrel came out with the key again.

Back to AJ's who had a similar result.

A new pannier has been ordered and hopefully all sorted in the near future.

I'm impressed that a non Hilltop or engine oil post has managed 7 pages, from the sensible through to the usual.

Keep up the good work.
 
So tell us why you didnt find an alternative means of securing pannier and enjoying your weekend, as opposed to calling for recovery????
 
I managed 2k miles in the alps after my "mate" ran up my arse busting the pannier right off along with the clamps. After kicking my mate firmly in the balls ;) we got out a ratchet strap and a bit of tape and headed off on our merry way. We still have a good laugh about it to this day. Recovery never crossed our minds did it Graham Rodgers?

This guy should not be on a bike in my opinion!!

When I collected my panniers and top box I fitted the locks myself and I found that it took more than one attempt putting the barrels in and twisting them back and forth to ensure that the wafer secured them permanently. I think that once the last wafer springs out it should be good forever. You should be able to see the wafer has sprung out if you look at the back of the latch and twist the key as can be seen in the photo.

Did they check the Panniers on a Bike before they gave them back to you? I would have been pissed with this AJ guy.

Anyways, this has ran so many pages because it's very funny. A couple of bungee cords would have done the job for such a minor problem as opposed to a Recovery Truck and you could have carried on. But if you didn't feel safe riding the Bike, then calling for the Truck was the right thing to do for you.
