New guy needs kit advice.

I`m looking for some decent textile kit that can be as cool as possible in the summer but durable enough for winter use. I want the trousers to be really comfy and not thicker than a whale omelette so i have an arse like Bella Emberg when walking around.
ANy help appreciated.

There's a long running discussion as to the relative merits of the Rallye 2/Pro suit verses the Hein Gericke kit. Have a search on that.

I'm a Rallye 2 person, but only because I did a deal when I bought the bike.

Goretex obviously.Some of the stuff at Hein Gerinke is awesome.Cant remember the exact model numbers/names but I think its Tuareg Rallye.P60 of their 2005 catalog.

Finding gear that suits all needs and can be used all year is very hard indeed, I use BMW Goretex trousers and they leaked this morning in the monsoon, I also had a Triumph summer type jacket that was waterproof apart from where the bow wave from passing lorries went down my neck.

I think the important thing is to find gear that fits you, fits your needs, pocket and lifestyle and then add to it, my wife is a 3 season biker so she wears MJK Textile trousers, and well vented Triumph jacket and then slings a jumper on if it is cold, (Despite having a very nice winter jacket) or a 1 piece BMW oversuit on if it is really wet - and this is only because textile clothes may keep you dry but the outer laters can get really sodden and are a pain to dry -especially of you use them every day.

My preference is functionality more than looks and I wear a Spidi jacket that keeps me warm and dry in extreme conditions, I guess I could have saved a hundred quid by buying the BM Rallye thing but I prefer functionality over looks.

No doubt a lot of people will disagree with this last statement...

The Right Bike Gear!!

Finding the right bike gear isn't easy! I've used mainly Hein Gericke kit in the past which was warm and waterproof In showers but in heavy rain I always put waterproofs over the top of Goretex textiles just to stop them getting sodden!

I now have BM Savanna jacket and Santiago breiks which again is Goretex but much cooler in the summer and very cool in Iceland!! Again in heavy rain I wear waterproofs over the top to stop the kit getting too sodden!!

Expecting kit to work in minus 5 degrees as well as plus 30 degrees is asking a lot and I must admit the Bm kit looks good and is expensive! The HG kit is better value and also looks good but how do you put a price on being very wet and cold a long way from home! A lot of layers is best and carrying those waterproofs really pays off! It seems abit ironic spending 600 notes on the 'best' kit then stopping to put on 35quid waterproofs everytime there's heavy rain!!

Ps . .forgot to mention earlier.I do a lot of "sports" in the mountains both here and abroad.Whilst goretex is possibly the best of a bad world, please remember, if it rains hard enough, you WILL get wet !!!!!!!!!!!
