New Hard Disk installation

Heh, did that really help? - I was kidding.

Actually I'm not it can help.

Are you really running the full version of Office including Outlook? You should be able to find out on your good disk where it keeps your offline folders for your mailbox, via it's help and menus, not searching the disk. Then hunt on the cold one.

Also, did you run any kind of chkdisk etc? as one of the things those programs can do when salvaging a disk is to throw away data that doesn't make sense to the metadata in the filesystem. Given the metadata is just as likely to be inaccessible as the real blocks allocated to any file, there's a chance the data has gone for good at this point.

In my professional role, I'd be pointing you at backups, but most folk simply don't bother at home.

don't do a search, XP search is pants. physically look in the folders as mentioned in the web pages i linked.

I guess I didn't emphasise that enough.

Still trying!

Thanks for latest bits of info regarding finding .pst files. Had given up for a couple of days as it was annoying me, but will have another go tonight. Perhaps the data has gone from the dodgy disk, nothing that important, but it's just annoying.... I think I'll back up my home PC in future.

Yes, I am running full Office pro and Outlook 2003 (not OE)

Why is XP search so bad then? I find the 'Find' function on my work (win98) PC is really good.

No, didn't really put HD in fridge, but if it fails to give up any info tonight, then I'll try the fire!

No doubt I'll be posting later!

Thanks

Will
