New HD Pan America on HD site now.

Tell Debbie, you will happily buy one at RRP…… if not … the doors over there…

RRP? I assume that is regular retail price? I wish it were so easy over here. No at this dealer we have to play the game.

Debbie texted that her boss asked that I come in to discuss the price "in house" because that's how they operate. I of course replied that I don't operate that way, I'll come in only if a price is agreed upon. Then I gave them my very generous yes or no offer, too generous I'm thinking now actually.

$19,999 Special
$390 Freight
$250 Deadwood green
$500 Spoke wheels
$21,139 This is Harley's suggested selling price.

But dealers here often wanting to make more $ come up with various "fees" to tack on that may sound somewhat legitimate but really are nothing more than added dealer profit. Prep and doc (document) are but two examples. (The first price they came up with, over $23,000 with cast wheels, was "out the door" but wasn't broken down so I don't know what fees they came up with?)

Anyway I texted Debbie the above breakdown plus $300 more which they could add in the form of whatever fee they chose. So $21,439.

For reference over here vehicles are registered and taxed by the State you reside and it varies. Me being in West Virginia it would be 6% of $21,439 plus $10 to record the title, and $32 for 2-year registration and license plate. While dealers are required to collect these fees and taxes they then submit them to WV. So while it will be added in at the end I always leave it out of the negotiation.

Well Debbie came back saying "we accept your $21,139 offer (plus of course doc, tax, title and license) so it comes to $22,988.28 out the door". Well working backwards subtracting the State tax and license costs out, the price was over $200 more than my $21,139 plus $300 extra profit offer. It turns out my offer of $300 additional profit wasn't enough to cover their $499 doc fee. I texted my offer still stands.

She will no doubt reply "sorry, by State law we can't adjust the doc fee". This is only somewhat true, while the State doesn't care what dealers charge for a "doc fee" (or if they charge nothing at all) the State requires dealers charge the same to each of their customers. Naturally my offer for the bike will have to be adjusted down from $21,139 plus $300 extra profit to $20,940 plus $499 extra profit. Geesh......

There's a video on Facebook of a H-D PA blowing up in front of the crowd at the ABR Festival, mid demo. Not the best advert for a new bike:eek:

Coolant hitting a hot exhaust … pipe coming off?

The bike could'nt have picked a worse time to shit itself;:D
I wonder if there was some BMW skulldugry involved;

i road one today for a couple of hours, its no gs but it handles really well,it goes like stink, riding postion is spot on,seat perfect, but its very gruff power delivery and built in character of the engine doesnt make it smooth, mind you it had the screaming eagle free flow cat and end can, nearside of the engine looks a mess and the battery and regulator are right behind the front wheel and covered in crap
the gs is much more grunty at the lower end of the rev range.good effort i reckon but not for me.

Report from someone who was there https://youtu.be/6KMratcpW4k

"it didn't blow up" No shit sherlock

I was there, as were a few from here..those two bikes were being dropped and abused all weekend..it was as if people were trying to break them..................

Harley have done an amazing job with this one, I hope it's a success for them

Popped into my local dealer for the first time in about a year earlier today.

They had two Pans on the floor already sold.

No further supply for them until November so maybe the Motor Company are testing the water to see what kind of reception it gets first? :nenau

I thought it looked okay and is probably a pretty good bike and a match for a GS/KTM/Multistrada etc :thumb2

I was told by Southampton HD that they had allocated 400 to the uk in batch one

That's probably right. Guildford HD told me they had been allocated 12 - and there are 30 Harley dealers in the UK.

Decisions, decisions......Guildford HD just called me to say they will be getting a Pan America Special with ARH and wire wheels delivered next week.

It's black, but the one I ordered is grey. But is still on the boat and now not expected until August 15th.

So....do I go for the black one or wait another month. I think I am leaning towards the black....

I generally don't like owning black motorcycles simply because they show dirt so easily but in your case I'd go with the black one and never look black for a few reasons. On a Pan Am there's only a few square feet of gloss black to maintain (unlike a bagger), just enough to contrast nicely with the engine and frame. Black'll save you some money. And it'll be here next week!

:-) Yep!

I went over to the dealership and finalised the deal this afternoon. Swapped the clear anodised panniers that I previously had on order to the black anodised ones - which were in stock as well.

All the accessories I had ordered are also sitting there waiting for the bike to turn up. Titanium exhaust, K&N air filter, big bash plate, radiator guard, tank pads, reduced reach seat and short smoked screen.

They even gave me 20% off on the accessories in the end which was nice.

So the bike will be here late next week and I am arranging to have it ceramic coated before they deliver it to me. I'm actually off on a long weekend bike trip to Wales next week anyway, so hopefully when I get home from that the bike will all be done and ready. The following weekend I am taking a group of bikes to Cornwall, so that should be on the new bike and will be the break-in done by the time I get back.
