New horn, and fitting to a 2012 gsa with esa

Hi,

I'm interested in getting a new, much louder horn from the standard horn on a 2012 gsa with esa. I've spent a while searching and am still no clearer on what to go for.

Ideally I'd like it mounted out of the way but it seems a lot of people have clearance issues. Is there and model and fitting kit that overcomes this ? I'd rather not have great lengths of pic tubing so would like to keep it as simple as possible.

I'm happy with wiring, relays etc so will something just swap with the existing horn, or fit in the canister space? Or am I resigned to fashioning brackets and splitting units apart myself?

Hoping for a nice pre-packaged "kit" but fear none exists.

Hi, get a Mini Blaster and the canbus wiring kit from Nippy Norman. Even I managed to fit it, wire it and bend the bracket a bit in all of15 minutes. Alan

Stebel magnum should fit (it did on my 2009 with esa) on original mounting point with a slight bend of bracket No relay required Check steering lock to lock before riding

can't see how a Horn would involve the ESA ? are you thinking of something else …. the one NN has is loud and easy to connect

Edited my post whilst you asked Esa wasn't a problem on an '09 bike Just make sure it doesn't foul the forks on full lock

Another option to consider is to fit it behind the right hand tank panel where the charcoal cannister fits on a USA version

I think Mark Hooton of this parish and Cymarc engineering, did some work on this for NN and produced some sort of instruction guide for the ESA equipped bikes. Might be worth sending a PM.

I haven't yet, I purchased a Fiamm Master Blaster horn and canbus wiring kit from NN and it came with fitting instructions for a GSA but seems to imply it will fit where the existing horn goes. I can't see how.

I plan on having a crack at it this weekend.

The MINI blaster fits on the original bracket, where the old horn was, as it's almost the same size, although a bit of bracket-bending is required. I think the MASTER blaster is too large to fit there. Alan

I've fitted the Fiamm mini blaster onto my 2012 GSA with ESA.

Fitted the supplied bracket / strip, supplied by NN with the horn, to the outer one of the two screw points that you will see on the recessed area on the inner side of the offside tank.

Also bought a Canbus lead from NN, so there was no need to interfere with the original wiring.

Left the original horn in situ, so I can revert back if required.

The Master Blaster (119dB) is stated as being twice as loud as the Mini (115dB) and would be preferred to me, but I suspect there won't be enough room. I've fired off an e-mail to NN for them to double check, as the information regarding the Master Blaster suitability/fitment is vague.

Is the Mini Blaster loud then?

My first option was to try and fit the Master Blaster, which I bought from NN. It would not suitably fit on my bike. It's really quite a large and heavy unit, much more so as compared to the Mini Blaster.

I exchanged that with NN for the Mini Blaster. As stated above, I've managed to fit ok.

I've previously had a Master Blaster on another bike. It is loud, but so is the Mini Blaster. I really do not think that there is much between them. Both provide a tremendous & very noticeable improvement on the original GS horn.

great pic ,,can you talk me through that please ? its an LC GSA ? you have connected the yellow Canbus wires to the horn with spades and just plugged the green new can bus connector to the original ? thanks in advance ..hope you are pleased with the noise level

This is a 2011 bike. The metal bracket just happened to be a piece of metal I had lying around and the minimum amount of trial and error was needed to get the right angle so the horn sat snugly in the place of the carbon canister fitted to US bikes. It does need to fit tight into the space to avoid fouling the fork stanchion

The bit you really want to know about is the connector and it's so long since I did it I can't remember which connector I used. What I do recall is that unlike my previous 08 bike, where I had to cut the BMW plug off to fit spades, this one didn't involve cutting anything. Chances are I just sourced a lead from Nippy Normans to replace to OEM one.

Yeah cheers it's kind of useful. I want to fit on on a gsa LC. But the space is even tighter than the airheads . I'm going for it though ....thanks again

Thanks Browny. NN said the Master Blaster would fit, but required a different bracket. I don't want to alter the bracket, so I think I'll go for the Mini Blaster plus the CanBus wiring for 'plug and play' as the 'very noticeable improvement on the original GS horn' is what I'm after. Cheers

Well I've just spent 45 minutes trying every location I can see but my conclusion is that the master blaster will not fit.

If there was no esa module there would be more room.

Ill have one more look after lunch then it's back to NNs for a mini blaster.
