New KTM 1190 Adventure/R

Does this bike replace the 990?

Seems like they'd be missing a trick if so... A need well met by the F8GS...

MCN have released a vid of their ride of a pre-production 1190R. They sent the rider who's actually done a bit of off-roading and I have to say it's made me rethink my position on the bike.

He certainly enjoyed riding it, he was grinning like a cheshire cat:D He is a KTM nut though, so he may be slightly biased :rob

So you KTM fans can I ask you a couple of questions.....
Myself and another fellow Tosser from this parish have two year old GSA with 25k and 30k miles on.We want to wait for the new LC GSA but where tempted with this new bike.
So what if in a years time we dont get on with it whats the residual values like..?
Whats the servicing costs on KTM's like..??
And any dealer in the midlands or the north you'd recommend..??
Thanks
Mts

Looses

As nice as it will be, anyone spending nearly £16k on this needs their head tested.:rob Have you seen how much KTM's lose?:blast

I am considering spending 17k on one of these just interested in what you base your looses money theory on?

Potential issue with KTM is how they heavily disount their bikes a year or 2 down the line. Look at how you can get a brand new RC8R for £10,500 at the moment

Good value if you buy once they have been discounted but not before ;)

In a word. Residuals.:rob I'm not guessing, look at how much their bikes lose over a year or two, and you'll see what I mean.

If the bikes right, and ticks all your boxes, who gives a flying f*ck about residuals :nenau

Worrying about resale values is only for those who know they've bought (or are buying) the wrong bike.

Spot on.:thumb But Derek likes to change his bikes regularly.:D And he knows that a KTM won't satisfy him like a GS does, and he'll sell it as soon as the new GSA is launched:D:D

:thumb100% right just don't know if I can go down the KTM route while the new GSA shows itself?

I read the Bike review... and while they said they enjoyed the engine and the overall riding experience, they did seem to have quite a number of little details they would seem pretty annoying - such as the menu buttons required for everything including heated grips and ABS, rather than more direct buttons.

Came across as a not so polished bike...

My thoughts too. They also mentioned the engine management not allowing the revs to fall properly at times. TBH my (limited) experience of KTM is that it is likely to be ironed out next model year. As I imagine this bike is a very big deal to KTM (it competes far closer to the GS's home ground than any previous KTM) I reckon they will want to have it fully sorted sooner rather than later.

I'm thinking I'll be looking to replace my '05 GS the year after next. By then any teething problems with both the GS and 1190 should be sorted (I hope!) and they should both be on the model 'refresh' (ie a bit more power etc).

As much as the new GS looks fantastic I'm still being pulled to the dark side as the KTM looks to have a proper hooligan side as well as the practical bits..............mind you 2 years is a long time :rob

You're a BMW man and you know it:thumb Have a go on an LC; I did today, and it was epic:beerjug:

Come on then tell us about your ride are they not a bit skinny feeling compared to the adventure?

It would probably feel like a toy to you, compared to the GSA, but have a go on one and see what you think:thumb

Tell me about these WP shocks, will they outlast the BMW dynamic things ? I ask cos I'm not well up on this and have just read that KTM own WP:nenau
This 1190 is making my heart race and will be in GSA territory cost wise.
