New KTM 1190 Adventure/R

Dunno ..... do tell? :nenau

From someone who has a new one - had some sort of communication from KTM about it, maybe I misheard 'oil' for 'air', dunno but apparently KTM were going to increase the engine warranty by an extra year, just in case.

That is on the 2013 models I think. Not the case with the 2014's AFAIK.

Thanks, one engine to rebuilt in the whole thread.

Yes, it's not good at all in dusty conditions and should be sorted by ktm but I never run my bikes as they come from the factory in real dusty conditions, that asking for trouble.
Grease the seals and the inside of the air intake:beerjug:

I hear you... but it seems like it's bad enough to cause an issue, even without excessively dusty conditions...

the adv rider thread may only contain one rebuilt engine, but there are several owners with dirt on the wrong side of the filter who have only ridden short distances from new on the 2014 bikes that have the factory "fix" for the issue.

yeah, it's not namibia down here, but there's plenty of shite on the roads of Darzet just dying to get in those ram air intakes, but i tend to agree that it's probably not much of an issue in europe. US can be pretty dusty, but it should not happen.

oh fuck.. I'd better get a refund and hand my kTm back... cause the experts here say it's a shite bike that will blow up when tons of dirt get past the air filter... it will never do 100,000 miles or make it to Alaska .. thank fuck I read the posts on this thread... saved me a shit load of money and time.....

This forum has gone to fuck... shitheads who know nothing about a bike dispensing absolute shite opinions... with nothing but internet rumours to backup these opinions...

Now hang on there, fella...

It is not just bikes people offer their shite, poorly researched opinions on. You must have missed the Air Crash Investigation Team in action! :thumb :comfort

Hmmmmmm yes there is a lot of crap on internet forums BUT KTM have put their hands up to this one and will no doubt being making changes to correct the design flaw.

I wouldn't want to be a KTM beta tester so will give it another year before thinking about getting one. ;)

Mates of mine in South Africa and they ride the Fuck out of them , not some Bimble in the Shires:D

At least Tim keeps his bikes long enough to see if any faults potentially develop:D

His bikes are meticulously prepared..................always

Indeed there is and here's an example of some :augie

"What's this 'rumour' I hear about them not fitting the correct type of oil filter to the new bike and that it could lead to engine damage??????"

Some days this place is like the 'Society for Misinformation' :clap

Just got the skinny from the horses mouth, someone at work has a new 1190R Adventure - I didn't mis-hear, the problem is with the oil filter and there has been a technical recall to sort it out and because of the potential for engine damage KTM are extending the engine warranty by a year. How many bikes are affected I don't know.

I have my letter from KTM extending my warranty for a year and I have to have my side stand replaced along with the oil filler pipe. No mention of the filter, so guessing that rumour isn't quite right. I have taken a look at my oil filler pipe and it is dozed/cracked, so does need replaced. If those are the problems that have given me an extension to a three year warranty, happy days. :beerjug:

Maybe Engineers horse needs shooting or ears de-waxing.......:aidan

My bike had the side stand changed on Saturday, when I got back I took the camel toe off the new stand to see how they had refitted it, the stands on the 2014 models have a rectangular foot and I wondered how mine was refitted.
Turns out my new stand has a round foot same as they took off, it has definitely been changed but now I'm confused.
The real point of my post was to say that I noticed the cracked oil pipe and couldn't believe the mechanic had not noticed or mentioned it.

I have developed a nasty 'clunk' from the front end under braking.

At first i thought it was the steering head. Now my suspicions are the steering damper, trip to the dealer on saturday.
