Got myself a new laptop just before christmas, which worked well right from the start. It then developed the 'blue screen/dump of physical ..." syndrome and now has completely died, as in won't boot up anymore. It seems that over a few weeks some software may have been conflicting with something else (incl Explorer killing it).

Any ideas?

I run/ran Win XP home on it, usual office software, MSN Messenger, ...

Is it booting at all ???? not into windows particularly, but are you getting a start up screen of any description ?????? Fan noise ????
whats the make and model, that may help folks too.

Try booting it in "safe" mode which minimises the number of drivers that are loaded.

From memory, hold down F8 as it boots and you should get an option to boot in safe mode. See here:

You can then confirm if Windows is OK. If you cant get as far as Windows loading, then I'd suggest reinstalling Windows completely - hopefully the manufacturer included some recovery disks in with the laptop?

If all else fails, did it come with a set of restore disks, puts it back to the factory default and you start again?
But if you have data on there then there are ways to get it of before you restore it.
