Hello folks,
Long time lurker, just ordered a new GS TE in Alpine white with black frame and swing arm.
Interested to know if anyone has a 2015 bike with the heavier crank and if they have ridden an earlier WC GS, did they notice any difference ?.

Thanx

Willie.

Welcome to UKGSer Willie ... hope you get loadsa miles'n smiles with your new 'bike :thumb

Can't help you with your question .... I ride an old 800GS :D

:beerjug:

Thanks Micky
I currently ride a 2007 GS which has been great but took a new GS out whilst mine being serviced and was smitten. :D

I've just got my 2015 GS

I've had my 2015 GS TE in Alpine white with black frame for a couple of weeks and so far I'm more than delighted.
I've ridden the older 2014 GS on a test ride and I did not notice a vast difference, my new bike does seem a little smoother at low revs but I can't be too sure because I only had a short test ride on the 2014 bike.

I'm sure that you will be as delighted with you new bike as I am with mine. Enjoy, Enjoy.

Rich

Thanks Rich, that's good to know, thought it may have made a noticeable difference, was very impressed with the ride on the 2014 bike, didn't want it to be much different.
Looking forward to getting the bike now.
Ordered a few bits n bobs too, vario luggage, engine bars, sat nav, tinted screen.
Did consider an Akro pipe but thought it now worth the cash (may be wrong), and the standard pipe sounds good in my opinion anyhow.

Hi Willie (Really?)

Anyway to your question; I have done 11,000 miles on a 2013 "lightweight" engine and I am currently 200 miles into my 2014 "heavyweight" engine.

I expected to notice a significant difference at low speed but I can't say it's that big, it's a little bit less snatchy at 30 mph in 3rd gear but it is a very small difference. The engine is still delightfully sweet (for a Big Twin - think two Sloper Panthers, yes I'm that old) and I'm really looking forward to getting past the 600 mile service and over the 5,000 rpm limit!

What does seem to have improved is the gear change. I thought the original was pretty good but this one is sweeter already.

Enjoy your new toy, I reckon it's the best thing since bread met the slicer - I love mine:D

Welcome to the Forum, Ding Dong has had a 2013 GS and has (for now) a 2015 Engined bike, have search through the WC section as he posted up his thoughts on the two engines, but the poor bloke is having issues.

Did you go for the Nav 5? Gear Assist Pro is a hoot, you should consider that chap :)

Thanks for the replies folks,
Fluff sister, yes the nav 5, is it ok ?, not really used a sat nav on a bike before so that will be interesting.
Not sure about the gear assist, would have to hav a go first, thought it may be a bit of a gimmic more suited to sports bikes, but again could be wrong.
What was Ding Dongs issues with the bike ?

The Gear Shift Assist (according to those that have it) is muchos fun; I've got a quick shifter fitted to my 07 GSA12 and it's f##king brilliant & such a laugh!!!!!!

Hi Willie . I had the light crank 2014 gs and now have a 2015 model same spec,
The engine is smoother and slightly less urgent on the new bike,
The spring rates also feel a bit firmer,
Enjoy your new bike,,, Roamer

Shifter can be dealer retro fitted, I had mine done before delivery by the dealer and it's an absolute hoot, pretty useful all in. It will allow clutch less downshifts to.

Hmmmm,
Will hav to have a think about the gear assist.
Is it dealer fit or factory ?

It's factory or dealer fit, but if you can amend your order, get it fitted at the factory. I had it dealer fitted on my last bike, and factory fitted on the current one, and the factory fit operates much smoother than the retro dealer fit.:thumb

Just enjoy your new bike, don't read my crap otherwise ill brain wash you and you'll start hearing something in your head telling you its not right :)

If you have never owned the light flywheel engine bike than it will make no difference and the difference depends on how you ride, if your the type that take it easy than you will not notice any difference, its only when you ride it different you realise the heavy flywheel has took the edge off the bike.

Tis a cracking bike tho and i hope you have many happy smiles together.

Thank you everyone for your replies, have spoken to the dealer and ordered the gear assist.
Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Willie.

I have a 2014 GS WC with light flywheel & quick shift pro, I've tried the heavier flywheel & it's slightly smoother at lower engine revs, less urgent is a good way to describe it..
Looks like a good choice of spec u've gone for, I would also spec keyless ride if I was going to order a new one..

Anyway, good luck with your bike & enjoy..
