Has anyone tried these exp versions of the Tourance yet? Bike going in for service and a pair of new tyres tomorrow. Done just over 6000 miles on standard rubber and found them ok really. Boggo stuff isn't too good in the wet (TC has helped me a few times). A friend who does track days on his GS has suggested I try the Metz Tourance, so when I started searching for prices I came accross these Tourance Exp versions and I guess I would like a little feed back on them if poss'.
Rarely do much off road (cos I'm crap) but think I'd prefer to keep the dual perpose option just in case.

Maybe do a aearch as there is loads on this sire about them..
My opinion (which seems to be mirrored quite a bit) is that they are a greay tyre but do not last pi$$iing time.

Lots of rumours about them being pulled off the market, but the bottom line is they really do not last conpared to the regular tourance and I'm yet to be convinced of the real world benefit of the extra performance they offer as a result.

FYI, I;m on my second back EXP but that's only coz the front is still ok and I don't like mixing my drink.

Chris, recent reports here are indicationg that the New EXP's are crap, they give no better grip and last half as long, better you search the subject. Most people seem to agree that the original tourace are much superior to the new ones.

5000 miles on my EXP, and it's just about done. Will not be installing it again. Nice, sticky tire though.

Seem to be in the minority here but I think they are a fantasic tyre and are lastiung much better than the Brigstone oe tyre.....and the handling/grip seems very well suited to the bike.

EXPs

Took my 05 GS to CW Dorchester for 18K service and found my front EXP had not only worn excessively but the outer raised sectioned had started to perish to the point of coming away from the tyre itself. They'd done around 8K miles but my old tourance did nearly 13k.:rob

I've gone for another exp (CW gave me 20% discount) to keep front and rear the same and CW have held the tyre for their dealer to look at. Not sure if i'll get anything else back but......:nenau

Think I'll look at something else when i swap out both together.

Horrendous tyre
The front had an inch square off and had to get replaced after 2500k only tyre that made my GSA tank slap fantastic for the first 1000k G.C. will confirm the lean angles I got from it, but after that it got scary Alte Wolf will verify this as he was riding with me and saw the head shake of my bike kept thinking I had a puncture.
Bought 3 sets of the old tourance :thumb

I tried them, along with, standard tourance, tkc, road attacks. I am now riding on Conti trail attacks, can't comment on wear but 1400 miles in they are not showing ANY signs of wear, I commute 60 miles every day in rain or shine and they are Spot on the money, I have riden over 16000 this year and have never had such a good tyre on the GS

+1 :thumb2 for the Continental Trail Attacks..
(but then again Im not a riding God)

Sherlocks in South Molton Devon have the Old tyres on offer at mo along with gs1200 haynes manual for a tenner with other purchases.

....and another unhappy GS'er with EXPs fitted. The wear rate on the rear is very poor compared to the standard (old) Tourance. The rear on my GSA has squared off and I genuinely suspect they may have mixed up the compounds in production as the edges are solid and the centre of the tyre is relatively soft & worn. Yes, my tyre pressures are spot on (& regularly checked), I do very little motorway miles and I do lean the bike over when cornering! I certainly won't be getting these tyres again. The Pilot Road tyres I had fitted on my last GS gave the best performance for me in both the dry & the wet.

I have just changed after 27000 mls on 3 sets of old tourances to the new Michelin Anakee 2. The old tourances were absolutly fantastic dry cranked over on full throttle and in the wet at a good pace althouth the first 2 did 10000 mls and the last 7000 mls (same compound as exp?), always changed as pairs. The new Michelins I've only done 500 mls seem to have as much grip but give a quicker steer and smoother feel. I now have a front Tourance with 3-4 mm of tread left £25 loose or £35 fitted if anyone needs one.

Just another line of praise for the original Tourance, my bike is just coming up to 20,000 km with original tires still on, both have warn very evenly, back still has about 5mm of tread and the front is still usable at about 3mm. both still give excelent grip, but I am noticing that at speed they don't like white lines as much as before. Great tires.

Old Tourance every time.....

Excellent wear & reasonable grip wet & dry.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that the EXP starts life with 2mm less tread so it's unlikely to have the same life expectancy.

I have stayed with the original Tourance and am generally very happy with them. Good grip and good mileage although on this particlurar set it seems to squirm more on wet roads at the point where you transfer from the centre blocks to the outer ones:nenau

Is that not a sign that you have squared-off the centre of the tyre?

Al :)
