Hi All
Not been on here for a few years. I have been looking at recent reviews for the existing GS and KTM 1290s and some of the journalists have been suggesting there is a new GS (new shape?) in the pipe line for 2018. Anybody have an gossip on said GS ??

Cheers

Seems to be reasonable suggestion as BMW are bringing out lots of "parts bin specials" such as Rallye, Exclusive, etc. to user up all the extras before launching new model. Milan show will be favourite.

that would not fall in line with the 4 year cycle....the GS lc was out in 2013..it was changed to euro 4 for 2017 ,doubt there would be any major changes for 2018 the GSA might have some bits added like the new dynamic pro suspension etc

I you are thinking of buying one, go and get it, dont wait till later in the year

Euro 4 is just a compliance change and not a design change. And most of the small cosmetic changes are a bolt on to the earlier LC, so the 4 year cycle, if there is one, is this year.

Always dangerous to second guess these things, but I'd be inclined to fall in line with DC's view. The new GS has a number of different nips and tucks to the beak, fairing, light cluster, cockpit etc, as well as revised transmission (though is catching up with the GSA in much of that). The timing falls in line with being an lci (lifecycle impulse) in BMW car speak rather than simply a parts bin exercise (after all, no triple black yet!). I've only seen mention that the GSA is due to receive a similar facelift for later this year. If the facelifted GSA brings additional electronics (e.g. TFT) or other non-cosmetic changes then for sure these will then follow on the GS, but sometime later, maybe 18 mths down the line. But that doesn't mean the shape of the bike will necessarily change.

Or maybe they'll launch the new GS BEFORE the GSA,like they have done for the past decade or two.

Says the man who told us a new HP2 was coming in 2016...........

It did. Didn't it? What have I missed?:D

Joking aside, I got such a good deal on my Rallye, as there's a new GS coming.;)

Some confusion here. I'm saying that the GSA has to catch up with the GS facelift. As part of that, the GSA may get additional tweaks, and which would then be taken forward to the GS - not that a new model GSA would come before the GS.

A link to the the normal media made up scoop story.
In large font it tells us for certainty

" New BMW R1200GS Adventure is On The Way"

Then underneath in a smaller font it says

"We might see the new version of the big R1200GS in early November at the EICMA"

I think there should be special emphases on the word "might "

The GSA will be getting the same updates as the GS (hill hold assist, revised plastics), nothing more, for MY2018.

It's neither a story or a scoop, nor is it posed that way. It simply a set of reasoning why you would see a facelifted GSA later this year. As others have said, will simply be a facelift to bring it into line with the GS and have the additional features such as hill start assist. Does the GSA have a judder damper, if not then expect that as well.

Can the 'facelift' new GS plastics be put on the older GS?

or is it completely different fixings and frame?

For those wanting plastic surgery to behold their new youth?

I wont be buying the new model Ive done it 3 times now and the first of the new models have always been trouble for me , its taken them this long to sort the LC Ill stick with my parts bin Rallye sport for a while !!

same as above.. i had a 14 bike and this 17 is definitely a step forward for the better. So any new model coming out i will wait to it has progressed with all the new issues sorted.

I am planning to shift over to the orange camp just for that fantastic dash on the 1290. Only if BMW boffins address that in the 2018 MY release ... but unlikely. But hey ho ... one can dream.
