New Multi V4

I was reading some reviews that suggested the current 1260 still makes more torque and the V4 is quite a thirsty beast.

Both correct . Think the V4 makes 95nm of torque compared to 98 for the 1260. But power is up from 158 to 170bhp.
It is thirsty though with tests getting only around 38 mpg whereas 1260 is mid 40s.
They need to bring out a 30 litre tank version of the V4 with 21/18 wheel set up . Proper bike :-)

The 95 an 98 figures are ld/ft no NM

You're not going to feel the peak difference, it would be interesting to see the 2 torque curves overlayed

Yadda yadda. I knew it was 98 v 95 sumfings!!!

Most reviews seem to really rate the motor . Much smoother than the 1260, more power but still feels like a twin .
I reckon it’ll be a belter.

Let's settle on 98 vs 95 thingameebobs...

I am going to come back to this again

The new one has less torque and what it does have is higher up the revs than the 1260. yes it does have more BHP but again higher up the revs. It is also heavier than the 1260 or at least quite a bit heavier than my well fettled Pikes peak with a full Termi which also gets the BHP figures a bit closer

I am still not sold on the looks of the new one and despite the rave reviews and despite me being a Ducati fan boy it is just not for me so I will be keeping my pikes peak for a while yet.

All the old comparisons were the 1260 Vs the XR i.E a sports bike on stilts and now Ducati themselves are aiming the this one squarely at the GS as its comparator .....

Very true, Rick.
There’s no real way to compare the two without riding.
Figures on paper don’t always translate to the real world.

I was watching a revue on BMW's 1000rr (maybe 44T ... can't remember .. I think so ..), and it was Al Fagan (I think!), that made this very point - that BMW had cleverly not chased the BHP game that all the other manufacturers get sucked into, and had instead worked on low down torque on their engine. No boring it out to 1100, no huge hoiks in BHP .... The result (he went on to say) was an amazing engine that would pull in pretty much any gear and as a result blew away the competition in the real world. The bike is a clear class winner, and its done it without chasing figures.

The acid test will be riding the new Multi ....

As ever the copper speaks sense

In no way am I dismissing the V4 ( in S sport for me without panniers etc) as I will obviously test ride one when I start to think about changing but for me it has lost some of that Ducati ness and TBH I love the pikes peak a great deal it has been a few bikes and many years since I felt so at home and so comfortable both physically and mentally on a bike that I am loathe to even consider swapping just for the sake of the latest greatest etc.

I do have to say though that the current crop of latest bikes leave me a bit cold

The V4S SF is just gorgeous but if it were the here and now I dont think I could get past the Tuono factory at the price and certainly the ability

Any way back on track I am sure the Multi V4S is a great bike, all the initial reviews say so but lets see what time brings

It's a good job pilots don't need to have great technical knowledge it appears!

It is , isn’t it .

To be fair I can't fly a plane!

I can, however, design, specify, install, test and commission and fully automated distillery, pharmaceutical plant, etc. from being fully manually run initially.

Horses for courses, as they say!

And AndyB_11 will keep all the large rotating equipment up to spec.

After I saw Giles’s bike I actually emailed Colchester Kwak and they could supply me a Tuono Factory VAT-free, so about £11600 !!!

Bloody tempting but don’t really have the room .

Can't you build something bigger in Brittany?

Yep, the accountants have taken over, chasing BMW and Jap bike sales.

Anyone who thinks Ducati have only ever just built bikes for the “enthusiast” or similar are kidding themselves. Their business has always been to sell as many bikes as possible it’s just they have historically always been one of the smaller manufacturers.

Being under the VW Audi group umbrella in recent years has meant they can begin to start completing possibly with some of the big boys although this may not be the case much longer.

"completing"????

Anyway, I fancy buying a banjo but I have no musical talent!

What do you recommend Mr. Expert?
