Hello one and all,

I was snooping around here a few years back when I had an 1150 GSA, tonight I have just become an owner once more this time of a 1200 GS!

I could not resist the urge to come back into the fold!

This bike has no luggage, I see that the Vario is the most talked about. Any pointers or advice on the pannier side of things and pannier rails would be gratefully received!

I have a GIVI E55 I would like to stick on the top what rack / attachments will I require?

:beerjug:

Get in there, cracking day.
Givi top box is doable, need an adapter plate , for my maxia 57 the plate was an e250, fits on the standard rack .

Hi Ratbiker

Yes the Givi plate shown is suitable for fitting to the GS1200 and will take Monokey top boxes, I have had the Maxima fitted to mine since August 2010.

Although I removed the original supplied rack and used the full Givi fitting kit, it places the box in a better position relative to the rear seat, especially if you take a pillion.

Cheers

Peter

I do indeed occasionally carry a pillion. So moving a little further back would be great. In Theory I would only need the metal work as I still have the attachment plate from the previous bike! Do people sell them separately?

I've also been looking with little success for the Vario pannier mounting brackets but can't find them anywhere?? Is there something I don't know?

If you have the bmw standard rack, all you need is the adaptor plate, in my case an e250 which fits onto the rack ( givi maxia ) . They do different adaptor plates for the different box types, no need to buy a whole new rack . If you still have the adaptor plate, excellent. Has anyone got the metal bmw rack for sale .

The original rack is still on the bike but as mentioned above the alternate rack sets the top box back a little further which helps with pillion comfort. I have the M5 plate just needing the metal bit that mounts to the bike in place of the OE rack.

Remove carrier from rack, move adaptor plate lower and back, worked for us

Thanks for that. I am all sorted with panniers and the rails seem to be on the bike too so all is good. Panniers were thanks to another forum member!

Great place. I will so be hanging out here more often!!
