Well I thought I was doing well.. I deliberately didn't post to say I took delivery of my shiny new GSA last saturday just incase I jinx it. (not that I'm superstitious or anything).

Things were going so well. did 550 miles over sunday and monday and it had its first service on tuesday last week. Engine sounded a tad cam'y, but I expected a few noises as it beds in so I let the dealer get on with it (only a passing comment on the noise when it was dropped in for it's service). Well, at 1048 miles and 7 full days (half way to scarborough) I was sat at the side of the road with my little silver card in hand. It had started p155ing oil out of the left cylinder. I caught it early enough to avoid the light coming on, so shouldn't be any further damage but what a bugger :(

I've not seen any other reports of this so it's likely to just be a one off, but off to the dealer it goes tomorrow. Oh yeah, I do get a hire car in the meantime.. Yippeeee :thedummy

Anyone got any nice words of wisdom or a hanky for me to dry my eyes?

You must be gutted, and I wish you well in getting your bike back on the road.

Others on here will soften the blow for you by explaining that you're just an unlucky b*stard; it really doesn't happen that often; you still made the right choice by selecting a BMW; it's part of the character of owning such a brand; stop whingeing as it'll be all sorted out under warranty.

Yaeh stop whingeing Darkstar :D

Seriously though, what a bummer :( I'd be very pissed off to have that happen to such a new bike (or any bike for that matter!).

I hope it doesn't spoil the bike for you 'cos they are such brilliant bikes - enjoy the hire car ;)

look on the bright side, you did only get halfway to Scarborough.Had you ben really unlucky you would have made it all the way there.:blast

I hadn't thought of it like that :)

The bike is indeed awsome and I know it's the right choice for me, just felt like a whine. It's always good to find some sympathy from strangers.

Remember the bike is man made so there is always the risk of someone not doing there job properly.

There are some here who must live a perfect life as they do nothing wrong or never stuff up.

Ask the dealer to check the bike fully.

If it happens a second time then tell them you require a new bike. I've done this with two cars and both times I got my full money back or a new car.

Dackstar, you are not completely alone I fear, there have been a couple of recent similar problems, but I can't remember if its left or right cylinder, but do a search. Your dealer will no doubt tell you its never happened before, you are very unlucky.... can't quite see how BMW actually makes money with the warranty bills they have.... oh of course they make it all up with new part sold in the 3rd year of ownership... silly me.

They are no doubt great bikes, but reliability is fast becoming a big issue to antbody that has to wait for the van.

Good luck.
