New PC, old printer getting them to work.

Here ya go :)

If it doesn't work, come back and we'll teach you about using 'compatibility mode' :D
Ah, thanks for that (again), actually I'm about to download VueScan from Hamrick Software as directed by the Epson site. Shall I carry on, or should I go for the one in your link? >>>>> Hang on, that's odd, yours is an Epson site as well, but it suggests a different way forward. Hmm, I'll have a little think about that before I go on.

I thunk. I'm going for your TWAIN one. It does not mention payment.

Here goes.

Here goes.

TWAIN is a set of universal standards for scanning and printing devices that are pretty reliable at getting odd kit to work on computers.

They're non profit, so as with any other driver, never pay anything for it :)

Finished downloading, now there's a window- "WinZip Self-Extractor - epson blah blah" that invites me to unzip it (ooheermissus) to a suggested folder or to browse and choose my own. What should I do, Browse? Put it in their suggested folder? Will I ever need to find it again anyway?

Go with their suggested route, but as before keep half an eye on the details in any box that it asks you to tick.....turn down ANY software that they offer free apart from the actual driver itself when you get to it.

..."that invites me to unzip it" Damn, just realised that it also has the option of "Run WinZip" as well as that of "Unzip", which one?

And I'm really sorry to ask such footling questions. :P

Went for UnZip.

Now on "EPSON TWAIN 5 - InstallShield Wizard" It welcomes me to the EPSON TWAIN 5 Setup Maintenance program, and says it allows me to modify the current installation by clicking one of the following
  • Modify
  • Repair
  • Remove
Now why would I want to do any of those things, I've just downloaded it, isn't it good to go?

On the DVD I sent you the other week, there's a copy of Winzip pro I think.......if you install that, you can download any zip, rar, tar or pretty much any other compressed file, then right click on it and un-zip (decompress) it.

I have a feeling we should exchange a few PMs over the weekend......I can't remember fully what else I put on the disc, but I have a feeling that you won't be using the majority of it at the moment :)

For now use the UNZIP option.

Repair.

It won't do anything, 'cos there isn't anything to DO, but it will get you out of the loop.

Technology Without An Interesting Name... they knew how to come up with decent acronyms in those days :)

Heh! I think that was about the only thing I did know about the wretched thing before I started all this malarkey!

It works, IT WORKS!

Another resounding success and triumph for the team. Bless you all, my children. :D

Dead chuffed, thank you all.
:beerjug:

I had an Epson SCSI scanner. Great image performance but the driver was rubbish. After a while it would crash and the only solution was to re install windows. Then it would fall over again.
