new pc running vista

just bought new pc running vista home premium?
struggling to get mapsource/2610 working with it? any ideas if there is a compatibility issue or not?

tried that? seems to have partially worked?
now says v8 more than one year old. do i wish to update? before you get chance to answer you get this error message below

I just got a new 64-bit laptop with Vista 64 yesterday, but I don't have my original install disks with me, I will try to upgrade Mapsource tomorrow and I will let you know if it works.

At the moment I am having trouble loading my work applications !!

Just now 1400hrs loaded my new Vista laptop i have a quest1 thou, loaded the V6 then the update disc's for V7 then went to the garmin site and downloaded the updates INC 46pointsomut to map source... all tickety boo!
Downloaded the V7 updates to my PC last night and it seems to have much better cover of Spain and Oporto the Laptop does not seem to have the same cover

A PS: also bought a 2gb memory stick to be able to add to the running memory on Vista. Got integal 2gb told by PC World it was booster/Vista
stick, NO chance, another waste of £16.

I'd be inclined to insist on a 2gb dimm/sodimm if that's what they told you would boost performance. - for £16.

(Or 2 1gb ones to keep both memory interleaves running well).

PC World are right for once

Actually chaps, Vista can use flash memory sticks etc to use as virtual memory for system cache.
This is called “Ready Boost”.

OK Desk Reference of Veesta now on desk and now I understand where we're at.

So how much main memory in the pc you are running Vista on?

Cos if its more than 512MB (and it freakin well should be on a Vista supplied box) then Readyboost will offer no significant improvement so you are wasting your cash.

When you plug the memory stick in and AutoPlay kicks in at the bottom you should see "Speed up my system using Windows ReadyBoost" from the RaedyBoost tab you can reserve as much of the stick as you like to the RaedyBoost service.

However it is no more than a 'scratch disk' and you need to ensure you have bought a Vista Ready stick.

It is no substitute for main memory upgrades as it only really performs one job quite poorly, i.e. a bit of a gimmick.

On http://www.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp there is a 6.11.5 "MapSource for Legacy Operating Systems" which might be worth a go, looks like you're using the newest version which came out a couple of weeks ago and they may not have had time to fix bugs in it yet.

(they say 'legacy operating systems' but the text at the bottom of both that version and the current version says 'windows 2000 or XP')

UpDate Mr Judge Sir,

Bin playing with this here laptop ( as yer do ) got the gen for the key disc from Crucial memory upgrade site, helpfull customer service people ( and still on 0800 number too ) anyway cut a long story short they told me the same as has been said on here. DONT'T BOTHER ( with the readyboost )
BUT, i tried a miniSD card in a cheapo card reader, IT WORKS..
Thought it would but usefull to know as these Plus version memory sticks seem to be like Hens teeth at the moment.
