Just picked this up. Been stood since 2002 so be nice to see it rebuilt to its former glory.

Managed to get in the garage for half hour and it runs. Bit rough, so will have the carbs off tomorrow.
Its a start though

Half a day in the garage today. Stripped and went through the carbs. Even though it ran it was rough. Jets were blocked on the left side and the slider was stuck in the right side. Stripped them down and blew everything out and it now runs like a Swiss watch.
I will get some kits and fully rebuild these any way.

Not really sure how far to go with it. I'd like a bike I can use and if I go over the top, it won't get used in its intended manner.
Few minutes with a bit of scotch and it shows how it would clean up.


I think the wheels will clean up a treat. Rear wheel has virtually no wear on the brake drum. so all good there.


It's actually surprising how good it is considering the time it's been sat.

I would definatly have the sump pan off and clean the strainer.
New oil and filter
Need to check oil flow to top end.

Mine had only done 4k miles since 1999 i striped it down and basically the oils turn goo-ey and any grease goes hard , if its not been run for some years.

Will do.
I'll have the bike in bits soon anyway. Bottom of frame is a bit scruffy in places so i'll get it broken down, frame blasted and either paint it or get it powder coated.
That way i can go through everthing as i build it back up.

No turning back now. Engine out tomorrow evening and will get the frame ready for powdercoating.
Need a thin wall 27mm socket as I can't remove the swing arm.
Just over an hour to get it stripped, so not too bad.

Few more bits done today. Rest of bike stripped and a big pile of bits ready for powdercoating.
Had to make a couple of tools up (guess what for?)
Started to clean up exhaust. Collector box has come up a treat. Get onto the rest of it tomorrow.
Seal on back of gearbox has a weep, so going to dig into that next.

Best place for spares please ???

Had an hour today so sorted out the exhaust and cleaned it up. I can stash all these bits to one side then while I strip the engine and gearbox for seals.

Think it came up a treat though.

Yes Keihan. I assume these are aftermarket and not something fitted by Bmw ??
Gone back to a bike that I was 7 when it was built, so making it up as I go along
