New project

Had an hour today so sorted out the exhaust and cleaned it up. I can stash all these bits to one side then while I strip the engine and gearbox for seals.

Think it came up a treat though.
May I ask how you got them so shiny, please? Like, 4 pieces in under an hour?!

Got a bit excited this afternoon and now the engine is in bits on the bench. Once again all looks pretty good to be honest.
Alternator was an ass to get off but did come with a bit of persuasion. Very slight marking in one cylinder but I think it's where its been started after being stood for so long. Don't think it will give too many issues though. 20230717_220439.jpg20230717_214016.jpg20230717_220451.jpg

Siebenrock don't do replacement for 80s, only big bore kits for 1000cc upgrades, which is a shame.

I'm going to get mine replated instead of replaced as I don't want the 1000cc ones, I want to stay 800cc.

Still beyond my riding capability. :)

I'm late to the party......but love a rebuild thread so count me in,looking good so far (y)

Nikasil should never really wear out. I’ve bought a few used engine parts from teilehorbank.de and they have been excellent, we prepped, not shagged and a reasonable price, worth a look for a pair of jugs n pistons

From what I see from the photo, you can see the diagonal cross hatching over the top of some scoring on the bore, which would suggest that they’ve not been replated.
If the pistons are Aok you could get the barrels replated at langcourt engineering (Weston supermare)
If the pistons are unserviceable it’s generally cheaper for replacement with a seibenrock kit.
I’ve probably got some 800 barrels/pistons ,I’ll have a look later.
I’d spend some time cleaning and checking properly before reusing those.

Thanks Mikey. I'll Finnish stripping everything and have a good look at it. Will get some more pictures added if you don't mind advising me.
Much appreciated

I would recommend the siebenrock 1000cc kit, with Mikey recutting your squish band in the head to match the bigger cylinder bore. He’s done this on a couple of my bikes and the result is impressively powerful and also smooth to, so long as your carbs are clean, unworn and properly set up. Your ignition timing needs to be bob on, and I would recommend the new bmw OEM bean can, which is more of a tuna can now because it’s smaller. You also need a good strong coil and new plu leads. All of which I sorted on mine and now it’s properly run in I have a powerful, torquey, and vibe free motor. I wouldn’t go back to 800cc. now
