How many times are you going to repeat that?

There aren't any recalls listed on the dvla\gov website for the 1250gs, so not sure if "major recall" is correct. May be an BM advisory to dealers for a certain batch of calipers. ??Due to collect new r1250 gs exclusive tomorrow
But got phone call from dealer telling me my new bike being withheld due to major recall on front brake calipers and no parts available
What next![]()

Very happy with my 1250 Exc. Picked up 3 weeks ago, front right hand calliper hand a little drop of grease, oil on it (guess it's from assembly) wiped it off never had a problem since. Thousands of this bike are running already all over the world and most are ok.
Never had a problem on my previous bike with spokes forks etc. Panic sometimes can easily get out of hand. For sure any problems with the brakes will be locked at by BMW and get sorted. (3 years warranty), but it's certainly not a mayor recall.

Hi
These new front brakes are made by Hayes - their core business is mountain bike brake systems - and a few "off the peg" double bloc calipers. Not single bloc. You can literally buy them from a catalogue.
Shame, shame on BMW!! - They chose this cost cutting option for all new 1250 models - no just the GS range - the new S1000RR plus RT etc all have them fitted. So doing the maths, it was a major cost cutting exercise. Despite Brembo making a strong name for themselves across many years of perfecting braking systems for moto. Obliviously Hayes don't do the back brakes, because these are still Brembo, otherwise the course of action from BMW would have been the same. I have read a recent thread saying that the front brakes are leaking brake fluid.
I've owned 4 BMWs from new including my current R1200GSA - and Ive held off buying a new 1250, until the usual initial cliches are sorted - one reservation I had was the front brakes. I've test ridden the new R1250 GS and the brakes work fine (actually, more initial bite than the Brembos) but if they are not reliable then what is the point?
All in the name of shareholder value - not the punter in the street.
I hope you get this resolved but this could be major issue for all new 1250 owners.
Rant over!
How do you know its a cost cutting exercise, do you have inside knowledge, if so, please share.
and it wasn't done for quality purposes was it? It is making me a bit annoyed that some lads on here think you may have fabricated this or are embellishing the truth a bit in the name of 1250 bashing/scare mongering. If it’s not a major concern why won’t they let me pick up my new bike and let me see if there is problem on my bike or not
Sorry, but Hayes have been supplying Harley with their motorcycle brakes for years, so they are not exactly new to motorcycle brakes. How do you know its a cost cutting exercise, do you have inside knowledge, if so, please share. Also I asked my dealer about this and they told me that they have already serviced quite a few 1250s and are on their second batch of demo bikes, none have had issues. Mine is due a service next month, keeping an eye out for leaks, so its obviously not every calliper.
I’m so glad I didn’t buy a 1250gs
As to the change of brake manufacturer not being a cost cutting exercise, are you serious?
Why the Brakes on my 1250 are brilliant much prefer them to the Brembos feel sorry for the Guys that have had issues but are BMW any worse than Honda/KTM
