Hi
These new front brakes are made by Hayes - their core business is mountain bike brake systems - and a few "off the peg" double bloc calipers. Not single bloc. You can literally buy them from a catalogue.
Shame, shame on BMW!! - They chose this cost cutting option for all new 1250 models - no just the GS range - the new S1000RR plus RT etc all have them fitted. So doing the maths, it was a major cost cutting exercise. Despite Brembo making a strong name for themselves across many years of perfecting braking systems for moto. Obliviously Hayes don't do the back brakes, because these are still Brembo, otherwise the course of action from BMW would have been the same. I have read a recent thread saying that the front brakes are leaking brake fluid.
I've owned 4 BMWs from new including my current R1200GSA - and Ive held off buying a new 1250, until the usual initial cliches are sorted - one reservation I had was the front brakes. I've test ridden the new R1250 GS and the brakes work fine (actually, more initial bite than the Brembos) but if they are not reliable then what is the point?
All in the name of shareholder value - not the punter in the street.
I hope you get this resolved but this could be major issue for all new 1250 owners.
Rant over!
