New Reg Stats

All that's interesting about those stats is the touring bike section lead by the 800. People downsizing for more fuel efficient bikes?

So less nakeds, sports and super sports registered compared to last year. Is it the weather, or are we all getting older?:P:D

That'll be the registered number :blast

KTM sell lots of mx bikes and enduro bikes that never get registered :thumb2

So actually you are guessing until we have the manufacturer's figures.

Once you've factored in the non registered bikes they sell, plus Husaberg figures, I'm pretty sure they'd be way over the BM figures, it doesn't take a rocket scientist.
They sell off road sport motorcycles first and foremost, most will never be regstered as it is a pain to keep them sorn'd when you use the bike for racing.

When I get time I will get their accounts data and take a look - it will make an interesting comparison.

They apparently sell 50,000 bikes p/a worldwide and have seen far bigger growth than BMW in 2012 :nenau

In 2012 BMW sold 106,358 motorcycles and maxi-scooters.

In the first half of 2012 KTM sold approx 45,000 motorcycles and if you include their Indian partners it was around 50,000. I can't get figures for the second-half of 2012 yet.

Assuming that KTM sold the same number in the second half of 2012 then their total sales for 2012 (including their Indian moped thingies) was around 100,000 units.

So BMW and KTM sold roughly the same number of motorcycles in 2012.

KTM outsold BMW by 1,000 units in 2012.

However the reason for my original post was to point out that the R1200GS and GS Adventure combined sales are at the top of the UK sales chart again and it has been this way since the 1200 was released and it looks like the new WasserBoxxer is going to keep them at the top.

Apart from the odd month when the Triumph Explorer was top BMW has almost always topped the sales charts.

Are you including Husq as well, as BMW owned them last year?
