New RT and Audio advice please????????

Hi everyone
I'm just changing my oil cooled to the new style RT LC.
Options I'm going for are:

Dynamic pack
Keyless
Audio
Top box

Also can anyone tell me if the BMW audio will connect with my Scala Rider Q1?
Will i be able to change tracks / playlists etc on my phone using the wheel?

Can anyone advise if there is anything I should also get, or give any advice in general if you have made this swap.
Any comments gratefully appreciated

If you join the R1200RT forum at www.r1200rt.com you'll find endless threads about this topic.

The bottom line is that the only Bluetooth system that works properly with an audio-equipped LCRT is the BMW one. Many have tried to use others; most have failed.

The best alternative seems to be a fully-wired Autocom installation.

I have and like both. My Schuberth SRC system (basically a Scala) won't work with the RT.

As per above it "might " work ,some scales have others have not …you won't get the full benefit of the wheel without the BMW system 6 and comms

you will require a lead to plug into the Aux socket for the iPhone to be able to play tracks and change via the wheel , this lead only goes up to the iPhone 4s so if you have a 5 or 6 you can't get a lead and plug in

I had the audio system on mine ,then it was recalled due to suspension …when i got my cash back i purchased another but with our the £1100 audio…i now pop an SD card into my Nav iv and play the tracks of their ..the only difference between this set up and the full audio is ….i have no FM radio !

mmmm thanks - thats not what I was told at the dealer… I usually listen to music via my iphone 5 but i was rather hoping to be able to control the tracks via the wheel. Sorry for all the questions but does the wheel allow you to change audio tracks that are played via the stereo through a Navigator 5?

I had the audio pack and NAV 5 on my '12 RT and have a Sena 20S. I think I used the bike audio once - and that was when I took delivery just to make sure it worked.

I put all my MP3's on a SD card and popped it into the NAV 5. Worked a treat.

When I got my LC RT I didn't bother with the audio option. A waste of money IMHO. Take the £1k and spend it on other stuff (decent seat for starters!).

With the Nav 5 you can control the play back using the wonderwheel (couldn't on the pre '14s)

if your iPhone is plugged into the aux socket with the correct lead ( not sure BMW have made this lead yet think they are still stuck on the 4s which has the old larger charger type socket as opposed to the new thin one on the 5s and 6. ) then the wheel will bring up the music info on the screen and you can change tracks and artists. BUT ..thats all crap if you can't hear them through your bluetooth …if it won't connect and believe me it wont ..well it will but then it will drop and not reconnect etc etc ..with the BMW system 6 lid and comms it is superb in connecting ..just check they do the aux cable for the iPhone you have , they cost about £65 to purchase , NONE other than a proper BMW one will work ,dont get a cheap one on ebay

The way I use my RT sound is either FM radio playing direct to BT, or I have a Play list with MP3 tracks on a USB thumb drive this allows me to control tracks and vol through the BT and control through the wheel, I have the Nav V Sat Nav that is BT to my helmet as well this allows phone calls with the caller id on the screen.

I have not tried the cable to iPhone , as I have the thumb drive plunged in.

I do have a BM helmet with their bt module it was designed for this and gives no hassles

Let me say that I love the audio system, I've only had my RT LC for a few days and had my first proper ride yesterday. I have a Scala Rider Q3 (very similar to Q1) connected to the audio system and to the NAV V, then an iPhone 5 connected to the NAV V. After reading many threads on several forums I went for a USB key for the music and it's flawless, you can change the tracks but for the volume you have to use the headset. I can listen to my music even on the motorway with earplugs, no problem at all. The only limitations of non BMW systems are the second helmet which would not be able to listen to the same music and the volume which cannot be controlled by the handlebar. Ok you can't listen to music from your iPhone or Nav V but the external USB key is a good alternative and quite cheap as well.

I use a Scala Q3, also have Garmin 660 too but don't bluetooth my phone. I have sd card in usb connector in glove box, it all works fine but control the sound levels via the Q£ which incidentally is speed sensitive and increases the volume as you speed up, quite neat.

I've tried the Sena SMH10 and I think the Scala Q3 is better.

I have a 15 RT and as good as the sound is from the Nav I cannot control the music from the wheel. as to be done manually …maybe I'm not doing it correct but have tried lots of ways

Music can be controlled from wheel if using SD card in glove box, only volume unavailable, but use bluetooth on helmet for that.

As mentioned the only thing you can't control from the wheel is the volume (other than mute). As busy builder says, use the bluetooth headset for that.

Use the "Page" menu option to navigate to the music playback screen on the NAV 5.
Then the "Zoom +" and "Zoom -" to navigate through the tracks.

If you have an audio-equipped RT, you can NOT play music from Nav 5 paired directly to a helmet with non-BMW BT unit - even if you turn off the bike audio. As soon as you start the engine, the Nav5 will deliver an error message, telling you to use the bike's audio system instead.

Everybody makes this sound complicated. Is is not complicated.

Errr, no. I don't have NAV V or Autocom, or BMW BT and my audio works (except wheel for volume control).

Buy the BMW lead and it will work of course. £50. My mate bought one on ebay for £7. Get an ipod nano 16GB. 30 pin to lightening adapter - £25 from Apple/PC World or £4.95 Boots. I had already bought the Apple adapter. Download your iTunes, plug in and play. I leave it on the bike. Control everything from the wheel. If you want random tracks, press and hold the "mode" button and RND will appear on the dash. Skip to next random track via a push of the wheel. I play through the speakers. No problem hearing. Turn off or down in town, otherwise you come across as a dickhead. I don't like the music via Bluetooth to my helmet. I am less aware then of what's around me. My mate and I use Sena MH 10 to communicate. Using the speakers for music leaves the Bluetooth communication clear to chat and also listen to your radio or music. This is uncomplicated and works.
New bike - Dynamic Pack a must. It's superb.
I bought the top box and inner bag. Will probably get little use of this £800 + accessory. Think about it.
Quick shifter is great. I use the clutch 1-2 and 2-3. Quick downshifts are trickier. I use the clutch on downshifts.
New RT is fantastic.

Forgot to mention. Go to "Nippy Normans" web site and buy the front fender extension - Avant fender extension at £49. Easy to fit. looks like part of the original bike and protects the engine, pipes and underside from muck. Makes me wonder why BMW did not make the front fender longer in the first place.
