Time for new rubber. I'm looking at Metzler Z6 as I have had good experiences with them.
My question - does a 160 section tyre fit on the rear? (160x60)
Has anyone tried this??

No need to go to a 160, there is a standard size 150 available.

You could do a lot worse than a set of Conti Trail Attacks from Busters for 129.99 they also do Metzler Tourances for the same price! 10k out of my first set of Conti's before a puncture!

Why do you want a 160 section?

You did better than me - only got 30 miles out of my Contis before a front puncture :( :(

Got it replaced, and now I'm very happy. Seem to suit my limited ability, wet or dry.
 
I've just put a 160/60 on mine. A Conti Road attack.
It does look a little more "pinched over" but seems to handle fine so far (50 miles in).

In theory you should be able to lean over further before running out of rubber.
They slide if you go off the edge of the tyre.


The Bandit 600s were the same. A 150/70 as standard, but a 160/60 made all the difference.
 
Some interesting views here.

FWIW my only experiance of running 160's on a rim desigend for 150's was on Supermotos in the 90's.

A 160 would steer slightly slower than a 150 (almost like the front turned a bit before the back if that makes sense) and flat out was prone to make the bike a bit twitchy. You could also 'feel' the transition from the smooth radius to the 'pinched in' sides.
None of the above was a problem though, you got used to it.

Why did we do it? Well, we thought a fatter rear looked cool and whilst you could get reasonably stick 150's if you wanted the latest 'must have' tyres they often only went down to 160 :D

A 160/60 is arguably agreed as the best size tyre for handling.

But when you start getting loads of power, that's when they need to be much fatter....
