After so many problems with my last BMW being a GSA 1200 TC which was new this spring and eventually it going home from Scotland on the back of a breakdown truck enough is enough. After a few daft decisions which I wont bore you with I went and had a go on a 1200 Tenere and within a 100 yards I knew it was a bike I could enjoy and rely on. It is so planted and pulls from almost any gear smoothly and gathers speed faster than you realise, the suspension is very plush and it looks well put together. I went on a GS to test the S10 at Ian Bells in Bedlington near Newcastle to do the back to back test, no contest. Sorry BMW.
 
I should have had one when they launched it and saved myself a load of money struggling on with the GS thing that many of us get swept along with. My first GS 1200 went on to 43,000 miles before I sold it and apart from the shaft drive banging away never let me down.
 
I will stay loyal to the BMW clothing brand while I ride the Tenere in my Rallye jacket looking a twerp, O with a bust zip but at least I can tie some string round it to hold it together when it lets go.

What did I read recently " I would rather ride a less popular bike than push a fashionable one " or words to that effect.
 
Good choice. I'd rather have a few extra kilos and mega reliability than a bit lighter and falling apart. You'll love it, its a real under-the-radar bike.

When I first pulled the Tenere up off the centre stand the weight felt low down and sits between a standard GS and GSA which I had. I looked at the Honda Crosstourer and it needed a big heave off the stand so I didn't bother with a test ride although it would make a great long distance tourer but it felt very top heavy.

I looked at the crosstouer but for me....it just didnt sit well. Great bike, that v4 and the swingarm is a thing of beauty. The clocks were wrong wrong wrong, that v4 is thirsty and the handling in some tesat ( when riding it hard ) said it was a little flip floppy. But still not a bad bike. Dont see many about.

You will be happy enough with the Tenere. Its got planted handing. Front forks for their size are genius.
 
You'll love the Tenere.
I've just chopped mine in for a new Honda Crosstourer Highlander, as the wife hated it on the pillion.
I have to admit that I was mighty impressed with the Honda, the engine is a complete joy. The wife found the comfort of the Honda a world away from the Tenere. So roll on Sunday, can't wait.........:thumb

My GS did not cost much and never let me down, but had it not been for warranty it would have cost a fair bit as things did go wrong, although I preferred the TC GS to the Yamaha on test rides, I could not bring myself to buy a new BMW in case I got a lemon.

I loved the Guzzi Stelvio but it seemed risky and the Mrs hated the sound of the Guzzi.... Women :nenau

The Yamaha won the day by not being best at anything, 10k later and several tours, many commutes and loads of weekend blasts - all both solo and two-up the bike gets a big thumbs up.

MCT forks give the front end a wonderful plush controlled feeling, and better controls the dive (I did miss the telelever for a while)

The Motor was on par with the TC, more low down but less top end, with the ECU Unleashed flash the midrange is even stronger and the 1st - 3rd gear restrictions gone, combined with with arrow headers (removes cats) I reckon the motor is now just about perfect for this type of bike.

As a keeper worth the outlay to get it spot-on, and with what you can pick these up for compared to the latest and "greatest" ADV bikes on the market you can fit a top end shock, re-work the forks, flash the ECU and stillhave change.

Roll on the next 90k :D

Impressive,reassuring and a bike thats just a bit different. The one I'm getting has this world tosser stuff stuck all over it, I suppose no one will ever need to ask what it is. But you are right about the suspension, its a long time since I experienced quality and feel through the bars, not since my old Ducati ST3 S. My wife loved that bike.


Dave 56 we did meet about a year ago at Squires and your S10 looked the bis.
