Tyres to blame:green gri seen the video he was being a Pratt . Any bike would be destroyed in such an ill advised "stunt"

I wonder if HPN will do anything with the Scrambler/Urban? :augie

Could resist the temptation no longer and so arrange a test ride today on Pidcock's Scrambler X demonstrator :D

Having had my much modified Triumph Scrambler for 4 years now and still having fond memories of my last Twin cam GS, I was intrigued as to how BMW's Scrambler would compare.

So took it for a trip around some of my favourite roads in S Derbyshire/N Leicestershire.

Despite being 6' 3" the bike did not feel particularly cramped and quite a stretch to the bars - would still go for the high seat and bar risers if I bought one. Standard seat was comfy enough for the hour plus test ride.

Exhaust sounds good - nearly as good as the Arrow on my Triumph :thumb

Suspension felt good - fairly compliant and not too much front end dive.

Brakes good - not in the same class as a modern GS or KTM but fine for this style of bike.

Biggest issue I had was the bike was fitted with the off road tyres which on greasy roads just gave me no confidence and so could not explore the handling potential of the bike  That said it did not feel as agile as my Triumph.

Power was good and as I remember my last twin cam :)

..........and shock/horror the heated grips got really hot

All in all a very good bike but to be honest apart from the brakes not really something to temp me away from my current Triumph Scrambler.

So looks like this will be staying for a while yet ;)

Agree re the tyres . I had road tyres fitted to mine like day and night . I want to use it not take it off road . Good you got a go on one though . I was in my dealers today looking at an E scoot , they had about 5 scramblers there including 2 demos one with / one without off road tyres . Not a great time of year to test a bike.Your triumph looks lovely:thumby::thumby:

That's just a load more photos ??? Maybe it's not possible to view without a faceache account.

Can't remember where I saw the video, that was as close as I could get. I think you get the idea ,journo does a wheelie lobs it gets a bollocking from BMW , Moto 3 ok , pride in tatters

Scrambler X

Picked mine up yesterday .... just waiting for a mate to come round and help me get it out of the back of my van ;)

It's a Scrambler - can you not just wheelie it off the back of the van in a cloud smoke from the spinning back wheel :D

I thought we were living in the 'post cool age'. I thought being cool all finished when it became fashionable to be a nerd.

I love the look of these bikes and hopefully I will have an airhead scrambler in my garage by xmas but......... I won't be cool on it because I'll have a beeming smile on my face.

Hell, who wants to look like the Fonze  that's not cool :D
Bespoke is best:D
Edit,I should add, this is an old photo, only on I have with the tank in situ

I managed to get a few hours on a Scrambler today. I nearly took it back within 10 minutes, as I didn't like it at first, but I stuck with it.

Bear in mind I'm only 5'10, but have a 33" inside leg (leng legs/ short body), the ergos were no good for me. The pegs need to be lower, and the bars higher/ closer to me.

Other than that, it's a great bike, and I really liked the characteristics of it. As the Urban is 30mm higher, will that make much of a difference? I'm sure there are footpeg lowering kits, bar risers, higher seat etc, but I wouldn't be prepared to buy the bike and take the risk on modifying it, only to find that it's still not right.

I'll have a sit on the Urban at the show, and see how that feels, but at the moment I'm leaning away from the Scrambler range. Which is a shame.

Yes it's a shame dealers don't have the foresight to buy in a higher seat for taller folks to use on their demo's.

Personally I think you should go ahead and risk it - then when it does not work out you can sell it to me cheap :D
