New Slippers via a Rocket to Vosges (And Switzerland)

This thread has inspired me to get the bike out for a trip to Bury Market to buy some new slippers.

Like the sound of a cork coming out of a malt bottle late at night, no matter how hard you try to do it silently, it never is. And that sound always travels out the room, up the stairs and into the bedroom where someone who was asleep, is instantly awake.

I bought a pair about 12 years ago and when I found the same for sale, I bought a spare pair in case the original ever wore out.
This was two years ago and I had to give in when a sole and upper separated.

I think our roving reporter should identify the shop’s front door, in ‘What Three Words’, so other Tossers can get their slippers. The footwear will become as much ‘Must have’ as an Aerostich suit used to be. Posts will appear, saying a bikermate is passing by Colmar, can he help anyone and do a block order. People will flock in with their replies, often (as Steptoe found, when sourcing muffs) then not giving their name or address, then getting the snots that their purchase has not arrived.

But fashion is fickle. Before too long, someone will doubtless pipe up that the same slippers are available from China for less than a tenner and are delivered to your door in a heartbeat. Folk will rush to snap up the bargain and a little Colmar shop will be bankrupted. Such is the modern world.

Day 4

Colmar to N Switzerland.

Short day today so I’ll arse around the Schwarzwald for a bit.

Breakfast and set off at 10.

Cross the river just east of Colmar and the road signs turn yellow, I’m back in my favourite bike country, albeit only for a bit.

Back roads to Todtmoos, my safe place here.

What Three Words

mate. It’s a system where the globe is cut into I think 1 metre blocks, each designated 3 words.

Excellent for emergency services.

Often we get a shout on this only and we can plug it into the aircraft.

I’ve just used 3 words to self deprecate over my slipper choice.

Anyway they are now in my,

“open in event of rain or emergency pannier”

So hopefully won’t see them again until home
