New style GPS retrofit

Has anyone tried retrofitting the new style GPS holder. The much smaller one without the key to a GS1300?

If so was it plug and play or did it require coding in?

I regularly ride without a GPS and I'm fed up looking at the massive bit of plastic that was given to the early models.

Actually that part does seem to be RT specific and comes with the frame as well I think

it has an electical switch to release the nav - unless its std on the R1300GS/GSA/RT etc, that the electrics go dead as soon as you key off - I don't get how it would retrofit in a way that gave you protection for a comfort break at a service station - on older bikes doesn't the nav electrics stay awake for a while meaning the release is live for 5 to 15 mins ?

60 seconds. Takes me that long to get off, remove gloves, helmet and earplugs.

That said, if someone wants it, I expect it wouldn't take much to lever it off. I use an old TomTom. Not very sexy. That's probably the main deterrent.

I'm not convinced the "lock" on the old style would stand up to anything more than a hard pull anyway. I use a mobile phone anyway which I never leave on the bike so besides the holder getting pinched I'm not that concerned.

No issues at all with CRN but I think I have read about eventual issues with Chigee.
I think it the new holder is much tidier
(You need to by the belonging cable as well)

Chigee (and Carpuride too) did initially have issues. Chigee fixed with firmware update, but I don’t know about Carpuride.
