new to bmw, favour a bobber or ride till it dies?

Mr MW is clearly developing his boat based angling skills unless he genuinely has no idea of how the prices on these bikes are moving. :D

Given it’s condition, if it’s a factory original ‘999’ it’s worth about £12k. Check the frame number. There were only 10 imported to the UK.

To save you the effort, I'd do you a straight swap on my R1100GS - It's newer than the one you have, and therefore clearly better. No need to thank me.:beerjug:

Crusty. It was a lock-down project. I'm told it was in one family from new. It was bought in Germany by a mate. Not my bike. It's a resto project.

On to the loud bits. Never had to do this to an airhead before.... some lawnmower expert must have been taking care of it.

geez, both barrels glued on with copious amounts of silicone lots of which looks like it's decided to go walkabout. No guessing where that lot ended up.

Get the angle grinder on it. With a brown seat and grips and the seat dragging the wheel, it will be a looker.

The $2000 o-ring.

Debris had been through the pump, score the rotors but left the case unmarked. New oil pump.

Rear oil seal had been replaced and failed. Closer look and you can see it was driven in with a punch, punch also slipped and marked the casing :nenau. No damage to the sealing surface. It'll be dressed on rebuild. Pump seal was failing.

Id love to see the workshop of whoever put all that red sealant in, must be like some horror show. How do you ensure none of that crap is blocking an oilway somewhere?
