Hi peeps
I have finally admitted that I am past the aching neck and wrist stage in my life,
I bought an 1150gs last week, so far so good..

how do i tell the difference
there I told you it was a stupid question

Hi, welcome to the GS world!

The GSA has Cannon Blue rocker covers/fork legs and wheel rims.

And it's VERY tall!

Also, if its after 2002 it;s probably going to have a 30 ltr tank, and engine bars, Plastic beak guard, solid one piece seat, and, I think thats it!

:thumb2 Steve.

thanks for that
most defo a stock gs then 2001 model
another very stupid question
How do i know the abs is working
other than slamming on the brakes

The ABS fitted to your bike will be ABSII (I think!)

With the ignition on, when you pull the brake lever does the ABS servo whine? If not its definately ABSII, if it does it has INTEGRAL.

If you have ABSII, when you start the bike the 2 ABS warning lights flash together. This is a self check, the self check is complete when the bike exceeds 3-5mph and the speed sensors have been tested. If both lights go out and remain off then its working!!!

Assuming of course your bike has ABS?

2001 will be NON servo.
So when you start the bike both red lights flash together, and when you pull away there will be a large clunk as the ABS self test decides everything is OK.

If you want, you can come over and look thru' my original handbooks which may help.

I'm south of Cambridge

The ABS does a self-test when you turn the bike on/first set off. You'll have warning lights flashing away if that fails.

thanks for all the helpful answers
the bike is a 2001
it has linked brakes
when i start bike NO lights flash
but brakes work fine
very confused now

Look down by the rear brake m/cylinder
If the flexi pipe from the rear caliper is connected here, you have no ABS
If there is a rigid pipe running forwards then you have ABS

The brakes are NOT linked as say Honda's CBS

Easier still...

Look at the front near side disk - if there's a smaller toothed ring as well as the disk it has ABS. If there's no ring and no electrical cable running to the calliper then it's non-ABS. Most people are happy to not have ABS on an older bike. Less to go wrong. BMW stopped fitting the servo because it was unreliable.

I quess.
You don't have any ABS in your bike.
Lucky you. Your missing ABS cannot broke and it doesn't cost you a lot of money.
Just brake as with your earlier bikes without ABS.
They are good brakes anyway.
