New (to me) DL650 V Strom

I nearly bought a V-Strom 650 earlier this year. I was offered a superb deal on one, didn't proceed and have regretted it ever since.
Good luck with yours, it looks fabulous.

Just put the Weestrom through its mot at 18 years young. Flew through with no advisories and still looks pretty fresh. Brings a smile to my face every time I ride it. Just got to do an oil & filter change, and it's ready for another year's service as my winter hack and second runabout. Cracking bikes.

I had an original curvy SV650 in 1999 when they came out and my wife had one a few years later. I honestly think that the Suzuki 650 v twin engine is one of the finest ever put in a motorcycle.

And as the person who bought Mark S’s V Strom, I can also chip in to say they’re brilliant. I absolutely fell in love with the understated, yet all round competent nature of the little V, to the extent that I then went and bought another one with a total of 1300 and something miles on the clock. Hard to see where you get more motorcycle for such a modest sum of money

I can't think of a finer all round bike personally. Lots of torque from tickover, cruising on the motorway at 70 is smooth and comfortable with plenty in reserve, B road bashing is great fun and it seems easy enough to maintain and clean. It's a keeper. Only had it a year and despite the fact it's quite dated in many respects, the beauty is in its simplicity and dependability. Progress doesn't seem to have made newer versions much better. For what you pay, you get an awful lot of bike for not a lot of money. I'd happily tour across Europe on the bike.

In 2012 Feb or thereabouts we went to Canada. We were meant to go dog sledding up in the Algonquin national park. 2 weeks before we got a call to say the snow had vanished. We had planned on learning to mush a trail, then go skiing in Vermont etc. What to do...so I rented a bike and we went on our trip by bike. Up to the national park by bike. Dont we look lovely riding in skiing gear! The Wee strom was faultless, 2 up with luggage. A really good, solid touring bike. It just felt top heavy at times but was faultless in our 1000 mile trip.wee strom 4.jpgwee strom 3.jpgwee strom 2.jpgwee strom 1.jpg

I am another VStrom 650 fan.

Mine is a 2015 model which I bought as the second owner from a local dealer where it was languishing because of the 24,000 miles on the clock.

Initially I thought I'd made a mistake. My first ever Japanese bike and my first ADV style bike, I didn't like the twitchy front end handling that was a complete surprise after the many, many positive reviews I had watched the read. Then I discovered 'cupping', uneven concave wear on the front tyre!

A new set of Avon Spirit ST's and I had a different bike on my hands.

We've covered 25,000 UK miles since the end of lockdown with plans for many more. I can't see me ever selling this bike but I have just added a big brother to the garage... a 2005 1200GS!
