Just brought my R80 G/S and going over her looks like someone as done a lot of work on her in the recent past, she has twin spark head and so far everything looks good service wise tho the final drive oil seal has been leaking for some time.

My first question if I may, what plugs should be fitted, I learned the hard way not to trust what someone else had fitted?

Looks good.... non g/s clocks.... headlight etc.
Was it maybe a R80ST that has been changed.?..... a frame/engine number check may tell you it was originally a ST...or confirm it really is an
Original g/s.

Looks good.
If you need work doing to it and cannot do it yourself, I can recommend Neil (Steptoe on here) as www.gsshop.biz.... who is in Kingston/Putney...he does know what he is doing, and is NOT a rip-off merchant. He gives good advice based on years of experience, and gives it free, and freely on here.... one of life’s good-guys IMHO.

Enjoy your new toy.

Checked the VIN it's a real G/S, clocks where reputed to have been changed back in the day to accommodate a full screen fairing, one of the first things I took off, and something I am looking to correct if I can find the parts, tho they seem very expensive :-(

Have a chat with Mikeyboy if you're after some original bits, he may have some. Otherwise Motorworks, Motobins or James Sherlock may be able to help.

If you go to Motobins for your service kit, they'll provide you with the correct spark plugs, although, you'll have to order 4 instead of two. :D

Great bike by the way. Have a look around the threads in this section, you'll be able to see what others have done to their bikes. On the g/s it's usually a larger front brake disc kit.

What do you need?

Thanks guys, parts list so far will be headlamp and surround and binnacle with speedo, and a good center stand would be nice as mine has a couple of rust holes.

Also does anyone know the paint code or name of the white ?

Thanks all.

Welcome to the funny farm. Looks like a nicely sorted road bike and no garage queen. If the clocks (off an R60-75-80-90-100!) work, ok and you're happy with the look, then leave em. Post some more pics. We likes pics! :thumb2

Plan is to use on and gentle off road (I have a proper off road toys for the harder stuff) but keep her in good order with a view to returning to full OEM spec.

Preflight checks should be finished tonight for a proper shakedown Sat/Sun which I am looking forward to, may even take some foto's :-)

I’m glad you checked the frame number to find it was a true g/s.
If the clocks work, then keep them and take your time sourcing the parts if you really want to change back to original.
The speedo is hard to find, but Acewell do a plug n play electronic replacement (Siebenrock also do one... but it’s made by acewell for them!)

It looks a fine machine, and I hope it gives you loads of miles and loads of smiles.

Welcome to the madhouse that is UKGSER

Stumbled across that option a while back. This and the Siebenrock/Acewell would be the candidates should I ever go this route on my '89 GS. Couple of considerations, main one being that Speedhut states that they are not waterproof - I guess there not designed for motorbikes. There's an install thread somewhere on a US forum/blog highlighting this. Did you seal yours or is it not an issue?

This was fitted when I bought the bike off Arkwright (RIP) last year.

I get some condensation in the glass but not had any other issues.

You will see from the photo below that the plastic headlamp shell does not fit correctly. I believe this gap is due to a HID ballast he squeezed in there and it will be removed in the next few weeks as I will fit a LED bulb.

Rob Farmer posted about fitting one some years ago.

Arkwright had the BMW R80 G/S logo added when he ordered his.

Hi
One of the best and reliable speedometers is the KOSO CRD64 they have a lot of choice .:thumby:

My Siebenrock one mists up whenever I take it out and let and sun get on it.....

First proper run out today, all good except the back brake, traces of oil from the drum gives quite a big clue, still gives me something to do while that dancing nonsense is on the telly.
