Hello all I am new to this forum and a new 1200 GS owner. I was hoping to find some guidance on a particular issue I have.

Having just bought my GS I wanted to kit it out with a large top box so the wife and I can try our hands at touring. I have bought (second hand) a large aluminium ARD top box with securing plate that was fitted to an Adventure, naively I thought this would fit my standard GS however it does not.

I am trying to find out if there is an easy way to put a standard Adventure rack onto my GS so I can fit the top box or if there is an aftermarket conversion. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

just buy the standard gsa rack with fittings and it will go on your gs after you have removed your rack simples.racks often for sale on here or evilbay:D

I know a bit about it.
The Adventure rack bolts straight onto the GS but it uses the lugs for the Vario side cases.
I only like the Varios brilliant piece of kit and fit them to my GSA's using a modified GSA rack and self made mounting plate.
You can make a mounting plate to go onto the plastic GS rack but the top box will sit much higer up.

I think I can see the modification you made to the GSA rack, did you need to change how it was secured to the bike?

:D

No i just took an angle grinder to it, its now mounted on 3 points, plenty strong the GSA has it bolted on all over the place because its supporting the side boxes as well. My rack is well tested.
The fancy SS top box plate is a laser cut job very technical but you can get something simpler made up to take your top box.

Top box was bespoke and I think although possible would be difficult as I would need to take it to the guy that made it, thanks anyway.

get in touch with the guy who made it.
Roger is a top top bloke, hes made all manner of things for me in the past,
pretty sure he'll have a 1200gs fitting plate and he won't charge you the earth for it.
his phone no.should be on your box, or a quick search on hear will find it.

Thanks for that....
