New VVT boxer engine

vvt

You would lose the lovely low down grunt that the GS has. A VVT engine won't give more torque than a standard one only spread it around better. You could get more HP but only at higher rpm. The GS has plenty of go low down but runs out of puff a bit early, VVT would keep the lown grunt and allow the engine to carry on spinning up more to find some extra HP to match the opposition.
An important part of VVT introduction would be help with emissions, which is a struggle for the boxer engine, as it allows far more scope for the designers/engineers to optimise fuelling over a far wider rev range.

All that sounds like my 2013 wc gs with light flywheel, plenty of grunt and would rev freely to the red line???.i have owned two since and they have numbed the engine with the heavier flywheel, just thought i would get that of my chest:blagblah

That's the beauty of VVT you gain top end AND keep the bottom torque. The added complexity is my concern and I wonder what if any complications it adds to valve adjustment?

A new GS engine sounds good but the bike needs to be lighter too.

Hang on. Is that criticism of the current GS?

Not really but I think the GS is at the limit, a new version with extra tech in the engine is great but if this is at the expensive of a weight increase then I would be put off the bike.
