Newbie Austria tour

Hi

Looking to go to Austria/Slovenia. First time touring Euro. Anyone have Garmin routes I can program in? I could try to work routes out by myself but would rather look at time served rider suggestions.

Hiring a bike down there seems like a whack of cash, and the train from Dusseldorf isn't exactly FOC either, but taking own machine seems better than 1.5k hiring! Don't want to ride down there but may consider riding back....don't see the point of running the motorways. How do you get there?

Is there a database of route maps on here somewhere? Different countries?

I don't usually respond like this ChrisA, but as newbie, you might get a better response from people if you introduce yourself first. There are guys on here with a wealth of knowledge but jumping in from the off, asking for other people to hand over their routes files, without so much as a 'hello, I'm Chris, etc, etc..., doesn't go down very well. Just trying to be helpful, rather than nagging.

I don't have any Garmin routes prepared as I have been going to Austria & Slovenia since 1999, so I tend to make it up as I go along after looking at a paper map for the general idea.

I'm in Cheltenham, so if you want to look at some proper maps which are much better for planning purposes then I'm happy to meet up.

As for getting there: make the journey part of the holiday allowing 2 or 3 days at the start/end of the trip to enjoy some scenic roads in Bavaria, the Black Forest, Ardennes, Eiffel etc.
