Hi all , hope your all enjoying the sun at last,,i would have been if i could have got my 2001 1150 going,,,
need some help,,here goes,,,,ignition on ,fuel pump primed, ,,then i get what sounds like arcing or shorting out from down at the injector,,,bike will start and run for 20 or 30 seconds then cut out,,,trace back from injector to under battery tray to what looks like diaphragm type splitter for fuel,,,from there back to tank,,,scratchy head time
bike has been stripped and powder coated,,,and a good earth when all back together, ,,tank and plastics removed and painted and all put back together yesterday just in time for it not to work,,,so what have i broke,,what is on its way out or have a snagged something sticking back together,,,,any help would be appreciated guys

Also check the offside cable sheath where it goes under the battery, that's where mine was stuck causing problems.

There both good,,,engine starts revs even drives,,then cuts out,,,,then get arcing noise shorting out noice and you can feel the injector hose rattling, ,,as if it its inconsistent fuel ,,,a very fast stutter but the noise sounds as if it coming from diaphragm thingy but thats not electrical, might not be getting constant fuel and make it all vibrate and i need new pump,,,or something completely different, ,cheers scooty

Check the wiring on the electrical plug that connects to the injector (peel back rubber boot). A fault here could cause intermittent running.

The flat black plastic tray/box that sits under the battery only splits the throttle cables so shouldn't be the cause of your problem. Have you trapped the tank vent pipe? Try running the bike with the filer cap open.

The multi-pin connector under the right of the tank often gets corroded and benefits from a good scrub with electrical contact cleaner. The same can be done with the rats nest of connectors behind the steering head, under the front of the tank.

You did get a good connection for the main earth to the bell housing under the battery box? Check the battery connections again.

Rev counter jumping about points to the Hall Effect Sensor (HES), which would explain some of your problems. Check its cable route for any damage as the bike has been apart. It comes from behind the front alternator belt cover then passess between the engine and alternator itself before the plug and socket at the headstock.
From your diaphram discription it sounds like you are looking at the fuel pressure regulator. If the hall sensor has an issue this will effect when/if the pump primes and maybe could cause the sounds you are hearing.

Only time the bike let me down was when the hall sensor chucked it. Can't remember the full symptoms but it would only run for a few seconds and wouldn't Rev at all. Motorrad Central fixed it when they were at bishopbriggs so that tells you how long ago it was.

Could you have connected the fuel supply and return lines incorrectly.

Your bike did not come with fuel line quick disconnects as standard, so unless it has been modified it is possible to connect the fuel lines incorrectly.

Was trying to eliminate all the easy stuff first but it looks like iam going to have to change hall sensor after all,,see what happens after that,,cheers guys
