Hello Guys,
New to BMWs, currently looking at R1150GS in my local dealer, it has no luggage but has pannier rails fitted. Can i use any BMW panniers with these rails? It has a Remus fitted, does this limit my choice of panniers? Also, what do i need to add to the rack to attach a box. I have a Kappa top plate in the shed, can i bolt that on to the existing rack or do i need an extender?
Hope you can point me in the right direction.
Thanks

If they are the black bmw rails, then yes you can fit bmw panniers. Make sure they have the bit bolted to the pillion footrests.
I have run a remus with Y-piece for the past 27k with BMW panniers, and had no problems at all. However, some people have experianced the pannier on the exhaust side melting. Never been an issue with mine.
bmw do there own mounting plate that fits to the rear rack to allow their topbox to be used, so I can see no problem fitting whatever set up you already have.

Thanks for that, i think theyre the black ones. The reason i ask about the rack is that i've seen various kits on t'internet and there looks like any amount of different faffs! They all cost a fortune with their fitting kits etc.
Thanks again

Local dealer - Rotherham. Wouldn't be Rainbow by any chance would it?

Never been myself but they seem to be one of the best if you read the comments around here.

Let us know how you get on - welcome to the site.

BMW panniers are good but the LH one is smaller. They should fit OK with the Remus as its on about 50%+ or GS's:D

I used a universal Givi/Kappa adaptor no probs. The main probs with the rear rack is it cracking due to overloading and/or biiiig bumps. Most are OK.

With the adaptor remove grab rail and use the bolt holes that it uses and then space the rear ones to use the holes/slots in the rack.:thumb2

I use the system kit and it is fine....I would strongly recommend a set of inner bags from motorworks....much cheaper than BMW and better than plastic bags....saves allot of hassle. I have had a rack break and now tend to keep weighty items out of it which you should do in any event. Cheapest place I found for the topbox mount was from BMW.

RT pannier won't fit the GS. Different mounting positions.

my rear rack is mounted on an alloy "checker" plate, also I still have the grab handle fitted. Never had a problem with the rack breaking, but then I don't put heavy stuff in it.
