Hello everyone, I'm a VFR owner 05 plate to be exact and next year i'm going to trade it in/sell privately for a GS. I dunno must be my age but i really want one. I've been studying the form as they say, and the prices vary all over the country. The secondhand 1150 adventure is obviously i bit more pricy than the standard 1150gs. I have ridden the 1150gs and the new 1200, but not the adventure. I believe 1150gs adventure is alot heavier especially with a full tank and it depends if you intend to go globetrotting i guess. The price of the old adventure secondhand with the main bits is near the price of a 05 1200 with average bits, i.e. 7400 -8K. So what would people recommend? I know it's a tall order to answer, but I want it to to the same job as my VFR and that is I commute every day in London and when I get the time, tour on it. Also can someone tell me the difference between twin spark, normal and bosch injection which I have seen advertised on different GS's. I will probably buy from a dealer unless I know someone who is selling privately and try and flog mine privately, unless I get a really good trade in, which I doubt.
thanks in advance Patboy

Patboy,
Being of the 1150 persuasion I would advocate that you go for one of them, however those of the 1100 and 1200 persuasion will be along shortly to tell you otherwise
Welcome to the site by the way

Hi
The difference in weight of both 1150/ADV depends how much fuel and
how tall you are,
twin spark was bmw's answer to surging which some older 1150's suffered
they all have Bosch injection,
there are some fully loaded ADV's at bargain prices but perhaps the lighter
and nippier 1200 may suit the commute :)

1150 adv

I use mine for off road, long distance touring and everything in between.
the 1150 adv is my choice

I'm told the 12 adv is better, but the 1150 is paid for and I can't see that the 12 is that much better that I need to get in debt.

so my plan is to try and put 100k on the one I have

all GSs are good bikes , they change your riding for the better.

your local forum will help you meet like minded people, they're generally a good bunch

you'll have fun whatever your choice is :thumb

Already Converted

Phatboy,
I have a '54 VTEC and bought an '05 1150GSA last week!
The GSA is tall and basic and I like that (despite having 30" inside leg!) and the VTEC is Honda and complicated. 6k/12m vs. 4k/6m for servicing is worth considering too. They are both very different, and I like them both.

I probably won't be keeping both though, so one will have to go. I will decide in the spring after I have put some more miles on the GSA and fitted a Power Commander on the VTEC (don't like the snatchy throttle) but it looks like the GSA will be staying and going to europe next year...

The GS does improve my riding and when it is moving it is well balanced. I am always thinking about where my feet will be when I stop though :)

Cheers Techno, I do like the vtec but can't afford to have both! So will be looking to sell the vtec next year and get a1150gsa or 1200gs

I used to have a VFR. One with proper gear driven cams and none of that VTEC nonsense mind. :rob ;) Lovely bike.

But my 1200GS is better! :D :clap

17000 miles in 17 months. I'd have done more too if it wasn't for other 'commitments'! And no real problems with the bike either. :thumb

Enjoy.......
