Hi. I'm new on the forum and very pleased to find a place where G/S owners are sharing their experience. Got my 81 G/S t'other day, at last. After much searching for a stablemate for my very, smooth road, oriented 1982 R65 I'm pretty sure the G/S will be right for me. Can't test the theory yet though cos I need to do a few little jobs on it.
I've decided to get the rims replaced and would appreciate any recommendations for a midlands wheel builder who can do a good job lacing up the wheels, especially the rear. Also trying to find a proper workshop manual with details to check the shimming the rear bevel drive. Could be it needs shimming to reduce the small amount of play > 1.5mm at rim, but I suspect the bearings may be on there way out. I've had 5 airheads and enjoyed working on them when required, but all of them twin shocks up to now.

Here we go. 61K on the clock, engine sounding quite nice.

Hi Lastorders. You didn't get the bike from Derby did you? Looks like a nice genuine machine.

Bob Warner at Leicester is a good place for wheel rebuilds.
