Trouble is, I wouldn’t want to use it too regularly as it’s so well preserved, I’d want to keep it like it is.

This wing is in the Charterhouse auction on Thursday. Could be a bargain the way auction prices have been recently.

A Goldwing rally is held here every September. This year there was a lovely old GL1000 parked amongst the newer bikes. I remembered how we all used to think that the GL1000 was HUGE, but in amongst all the 1800s it seemed such a 'normal' sized bike. At roughly 50 years old it still sounded dead dead smooth and oozed that fine Honda quality of that era. A lovely old thing.
The Dobles bike is a beauty. Try finding another with that mileage and provenance. How on earth do you value such a thing? A one off with a one off price tag.
I seem to remember that the sides of the 'tank' hinged down and that there was a kick start in one of the panels. How quaint -

I had a 1978 KZ, the one with the 3 clocks on the tank. I advertised it for sale in 1983. A chap came to have a look and asked if he could pick it up in a months time if he left a £500 deposit. He worked abroad and was due to go back the next day. No problem.
6 months later and I'd never heard another thing from this person.
I'd just decided to put it up for sale again when one evening I had a call from a lady who asked me if I'd taken a deposit on a motorcycle from someone about 6 months ago.
It turns out that he'd been offered some phenomenal amount of money to remain at work for six months as the job he was on was falling behind. Somewhere in the far east if I remember. The problem was he couldn't find my phone number to let me know.
In the end his wife had gone to the Hull daily mail offices and managed after several visits to find my advert among the micro filches.
About 2 weeks after his wife's phone call he turned up and collected the bike. Gave me another £200 for my trouble.
6 months later and I'd never heard another thing from this person.

I wouldn't trust those 70's front brakes to be up to todays driving conditions, but the bike looks great.

Strangely enough My first ride on a Goldwing GL1500 was around 2009 on an anniversary Goldwing model in Gold or Beige colour, very nice it was too.
But just couldn't see myself solo riding with that huge lump behind me (not a fan of top boxes neither), hence my idea, why not chop off the back end, speakers, back rest and top box. Keeping the side boxes only.
Until the introduction of the Goldwing Bagger model just recently, never see one without a top box, I like it very much.
Other models that deserves this alteration would be the older Bmw K1200LT model, it too has a huge back end lump, now that they have reduced in price, I may end up with one of those instead.

I agree; it seems a tad rich. I would have thought c.£8k, but a few dealers have been getting 'sporty' with prices.
