Anyone know if Nitromors is safe to strip a few layers of paint off a carbon hugger??

Just before I nuke it

I tried to finish some ducati C/F panels with a coloured clear lacquer, it looked sh1t so i took the paint off with nitromorse/halford paint remover, it seemed OK at first then loads of people said what a wanker i was for doing it as it will fek up the carbon:nenau

I sold the bike a couple of weeks later and it still looked ok:nenau

Shep

ps buy a cheap CF part from a breaker and try it on that first.

It's not the fibres that will be the problem. It'll be the resin that gets affected and that hopfully holds it all together  .

So I'd recommend a duplicate part, and try it, carefully.

Safe on PVC windows..

Oh this stuff is safe on PVC windows so should not have a problem with it on CF. Also you might need to lightly sand paper the paint if it has a strong lacquer to allow it to penetrate better.

It might not act quite as fast as nitromors, but not VOCs and so no fumes, or need to keep in airy area and its a past so easy to fill hard to get spots like moulding corners etc.

Also its a green product good for the environment :thumb
<steps off soap box> :D

My mate used Nitromors on his CF panels on his Ducati, he found out later that he should not have used it. According to some boat guy it breaks up the resin in that CF that can weaken it considerably.

carbon

use cellulose thinners and some elbow grease as I sent Den a carbon fibre mudguard that he successfully removed the paint from.

Barry.

Concorde lost part of it's tail section in flight due to the epoxy joints being weakened by paint stripper. If you are going faster than Mach 1, I wouldn't use it......:D

Thanks for the replies folks.. reckon thats a resounding "don't be a tosser" then :D

personally i'd sell it to my mate and let him use HIS elbow grease..I'll let you know how long it takes me bryn...:rob

Yes - Nitromors it safe to use on a CF hugger - depending on the resin used

The resin holding the CF together is epoxy and shouldn't be harmed by the nitromors.

Test a small area first though.
However, /i probably wouldn;t use it on a structural part.

I'd be more worried about the CF epoxy degrading due to UV from the sun though.
