NO CLICK preload adjuster 1150gs

Yesterday I thought that preload adjuster is filthy inside the cap,must clean. I removed the central screw gave the cap a tap and off it came. I thought I heard a little noise as it came off, but could find nothing on the garage floor, even sweeping with a magnetic idiot tool.
Put the cap back on started to screw back to mid way + position no click for each turn.
Where has my click gone? Have I lost a miniscule ball bearing or something?
Tried 2 or 3 BMW garages no joy.
Can anyone tell me what I dropped or how to get the click back?

with the cap removed you can see a small hole on the side they fit in

Thanks Niko thought I was losing the plot as I have been unable to find the bits you describe. I did hear a little ping as it came off but where they went ..........? You cannot buy these bits all "one piece with the shock absorber sir"

But you can buy / cannibalise springs and ball bearings. I'd just dig around - I'm sure you'll be able to find something that'll fit. In the meantime some sort of cable tie workaround should suffice

Thanks Matt the adjuster is held on by the central screw no need to cable tie anything , just lost the internal ball and spring.If I had any idea of what they looked like I would be the first to be creative.

the spring just fits the hole and the ball needs to be able to be pushed in flush with the body ,
so that should give you an idea of the length of spring needed ,
do you have a bearing man near you? they should have the bits

Unless you really want the click you do not need to worry, as long as you can feel the remote adjuster becoming harder to turn as you increase the pre load it is doing its job.

Yep Eliminator that was the other thing I did while cleaning. Makes a difference.
Not too worried about the click dizzy, and take your point over the size niko.Consider this resolved.
